My parents bought a condominium in South Carolina several years ago and now they are in the process of selling the property.

Prior to them putting the property on the market, they had moved back to Japan. While visiting for vacation, they listed the property with an agent. The property is still under their names.

I am still living in the US, so I have been handling all the communication back and forth between the realtor and my parents. But if the property gets sold, would my parents have to come back to the US to get the paperwork through? Or can it be handled through mail/fax?

I am completely lost on how people living overseas sell properties in the US. Any insight on this procedure would be greatly appreciated.

I just sold some property here which was owned by a U.S. Citizen living in Japan and he just emailed and faxed documents like any other Seller . . . . and when necessary, he had his Signature Notarized at the closest U.S. Consulate. Went like ClockWork !

Thanks for the quick reply!

Between the options of...

*Power Of Attorney
*Mail/Fax
*Bringing my parents over here to close

I was hoping that the mail/fax option would be doable. Hopefully the buyer can come through on the financing and my parents can finally get rid of the condo.

Fax/e-mail/mail option is doable.

Aristo82, I am in South Carolina and can tell you it can be done very easily. With fax and email, communication is not hindered. Your REALTOR should be able to explain the closing process and reassure you that they will keep it on track to close!
