I'm a realtor in Toronto. And in the last few months i have come across a lot of free tools that can be utilized by us realtors.

So i set up a site called http://open-realtor.com

I hope it helps you if you really wish to have a cheap DIY solution that holds it own.

The use of "Realtor" in your domain name is not allowed - unless used in conjunctions with an actual Realtor's name. Once reported you will be forced to give up the domain. You may as well get that new domain now before you waste a lot of time and effort promoting the site only to have to give it up.

If you are a Realtor you should already know this. Below is from Realtor.org - Crea's rules are the same.

1. The term REALTOR®, whether used as part of a domain name or in some other fashion must refer to a member or a member's firm.

2. The term REALTOR® may not be used with descriptive words or phrases. For example, Number1realtor.com, numberone-realtor.com, chicagorealtors.org or realtorproperties.com are all incorrect.

Unless your name is Mr.Open - open-realtor.com is an improper use of the trademark and you will be forced to give up the doamin.

Why do you think it was available?

Below is from realtors.ca

The REALTOR® trade marks are used to identify real estate services provided by brokers and salespersons who are members of CREA and who accept and respect a strict Code of Ethics, and are required to meet consistent professional standards of business practice which is the consumer's assurance of integrity.

MLS®, Multiple Listing Service®, and the associated logos are all registered certification marks owned by CREA and are used to identify real estate services provided by brokers and salespersons who are members of CREA.

The use of the trademark has rules - and the way you are using it contravenes those rules. See above - or please call your board.

If i am told to pull down it down, i will.

But it reminds me of all the red tape ppl create, instead of saying 'hey wow, i don't have to go to a 3rd party provider, i can do it myself?'

and you hide behind the admin, no real links of whether you are a realtor too..

cause if you aren't and telling me what you are, than you should be ashamed of yourself to tell a Realtor whether we are allowed to help each other.

CREA is canada, and .com is US. Explain how CREA has jurisdiction in US? And i link to realtors.org on my site, to the Center of Realtors Tech, which themselves point to all the links i do as i am part of 'open source' projects provided to realtors.

I was a Realtor for 12 years - how long have you been a Realtor?

The rules are the same in Canada and the US.

Also see

and for Crea's trademark manual which outlines usage in domain names see

Like i said, if i'm told to pull it down as it hurts the REALTOR name than i will.

I will ask you, am i hurting the REALTOR name?

i may get an .org instead of a .com domain, and just list a donation button. How about that?

As you know, under trademark laws, pinkfloyd.com is illegal to have unless you are pinkfloyd, but pinkfloyd.org anybody in the world is allowed to own it as long as they are not for profit.

So i may have to get a .org, that way the lawyers for NAR could say nothing to a .org just as wipo lawyers can do nothing about pinkfloyd.org

And 'was' is exactly that, it isn't now, and back than everyone had their head in the sand.

Today with the tools realtors have rules are changing, i invite you to watch as i do those changes.

The improper use of the domain name weakens the trademark and hurts all Realtors - which is why the rules are in effect.

It doesn't matter what the domain extension is - the issue is the improper use of "Realtor". There is no loopholes, sorry.
