Hello,

My name is Jodi and I am a few months away from taking my RE exam in California but I have a question that I would like to put out there for those of you good in marketing. I am very interested in historical homes and have a rough (ok...very rough) marketing plan in mind to help me reach these potential clients. I am a lover of historic preservation and architectural history and have a little more knowledge than the average RE in this area.I would like to eventually get some training through the National Trust of Historic Preservation's RE program but that is a ways down the road. I realize that I will have to get lots of clients under my belt before I specialize but I am wondering what your thoughts are. I have found a RE agent that is willing to work with me (once I am licensed) and he has some great ideas about how to start out my plan...
Any thoughts?

Thank you,
Jodi

Sounds like a wonderful plan to me! Don't underestimate your ability to build a niche client-base quickly, especially if you have special skills and knowledge in a field such as historic preservation & architecture. Network, network, network. Do your job expertly and with zeal. The business will come!

Good luck!

Thank you so much! My parents are older (mid-70s) and they joke that I like old things because I grew up around them...hehe...I am ready to work hard!

We have a local agent who specializes in Mid-Century homes and is successful. He advertises in those specialty magazines, he markets specifically to those neighborhoods, he writes articles about that era of homes, at his open houses he has books about Mid-Century design displayed, he has a newsletter with just those kind of homes and information, etc. You could organize historic home tours, host lectures with architectural experts, etc. You may not sell as many homes overall but you will probably enjoy it more.

Which Century might that be ? Just curious what that means in Southern California. I know the Spaniards with Coronado were moving up the Pacific Coast by the 1550s and establishing permanent Mission Towns by the 1650s; but I don't know about stand alone houses being built until the 1700s. In which Century does this Agent find enough inventory to make a living, here in the 21st Century ?

P.S. Since we discussed Finding a Niche just last week, here's a link to that Thread:
