Perky, Does "entitled to our opinions and to express said opinions" mean that one should go about saying anything? And, if so, what is the good produced from such action? I think discussions that are well thought out based on knowledge is far better than just emoting because we can. Let's face it, an un-informed opinion is not very intelligent. Unfortunately fear is often the basis of such ranting. The problem with discussing religion here is that we are not all of the same beliefs. Therefore, someone will be offended. Why??

Did you reply to my questions regarding the "facts" that are in dispute? What did I state that is ill informed?
Are you denying that what I stated was true? Anyone with a simple grasp of American History would know that FDR, JFK, Harry Truman, and Lyndon B Johnson were democrats and were President when certain conflicts erupted - and they should also know that "Ike" and Nixon were Republican Presidents when Korea and Vietnam ended...what's to dispute or prove about that? If you need a footnote to confirm that, I suggest you take an American History 101 course at the community college.
Or am I ill informed because I'm not falling for Obama's flowery words? Am I ill informed because in hindsight, I see what a good President Bill Clinton was and would support having him in office again were it legal? What's to footnote about that?
I'm certainly not offended when other people discuss their religious beliefs...why should I be? I'm secure in my faith and honestly respect others and I respect their right to talk about it. Particularly when faith is an important part of their political outlook.
Since neither the other poster nor I posted ANYTHING in the least that was judgemental about our particular religious bents, in fact, they were very matter-of-fact and very non-threatening, I find it interesting that someone would be offended by it.
I wasn't even offended when someone made light of a particular facet of my faith (the coming AntiChrist) by suggesting that Obama is that person. I took it in stride and with a grain of salt.
I always thought being tolerant meant being able to respect and listen to other's viewpoints and beliefs, without telling them to keep quiet about them.
The very title of this thread invoked religion. So really, your beef should be with the OP, not me.

A good friend, now deceased, used to use the expression "God, Guns and Guts built this great nation; let's keep all three!". Though doubt it was original with him, I do find it reflecting my personal attitude.
I think it is far more likely that the McCain/Palin ticket would agree than would the Obama/Biden slate. Obviously there are many other details to be considered but I am convinced they can be resloved if the core philosophy is on the right track.

And Obama is going to fix this....how?
I do hear him going on and on about it's time for a change...blah blah blah...but what's he going to do?
I have a hard time believing anything he - (and let me say I have a hard time believing ANY politician.) says because of the obvious fancy footwork he's done so far to get around troubling situations.
For instance, his spiritual mentor and pastor for 20 some years has been spouting anti-American hate speech for decades, yet he never knew of it? And now, after a stink was made about it, he left the church... Hmmm. I question his sincerity in his involvement in the church (i.e., he honestly didn't know what this pastor was saying, but for pete's sake...if he was a devout attender, how could he miss it?). More than that, I question his sincerity in his cutting ties with the pastor - doesn't anyone else think it's strange that he didn't cut ties a long time ago, if he truly loves America?
How can you love America and sit under the tutelage of someone who clearly hates America? I really don't care what his religion is - that's not the point. The point is that he either was ignorant of what his Pastor has been harping on for decades (which makes me question his powers of observation) or he is now backpedaling out of there for political reasons (which makes me question his devotion to his faith...which calls into question other facets of his character.)
I for one would have no problem voting for an athiest for President, as long as he is true to his system of belief (or non belief) and doesn't change with the wind of public approval.
I was offended, along with all my fellow citizens of Northeast PA when he dismissed us as bitter angry people clinging to our God and our guns. What kind of thing is that to say about people who you want to vote for you? Oh, that's not what he meant? Oh, okay - so he can say something really stupid and then say "I didn't mean it" and we're supposed to swallow it hook line and sinker, but someone else, like Hillary or George Bush can say something equally stupid or inappropriate and they are lynched in the press?
Sorry - I really hate double standards....and the things that disturb me about Obama are more of a character issue than anything else.
And that's what makes me distraught over who to vote for at all. None of them have excellent character. None of them stand out to me as someone fantastic. It's really something for me to look back longingly at Slick Willie and wish he were in charge again. LOL. He did some good things - I didn't like a lot of what he did (particularly pushing for China as the Most Favored Nation and all of that crap) but he seems a lot more attractive to me as a president than anything we've got to choose from now.

Perky, again, peace and blessings, to you. I will not use my energy to respond to sarcasm. It's not your direct questions but the overall attack tone of your comments.
