Has anyone used the Miva keyword generator before at https://account.uk.miva.com/advertiser/Account/Popups/KeywordGenBox.asp ? If so do you find the search counts reliable?

Sorry but Miva is cr*p. Is this keywords for SEO or Adwords?

The latest version of Google's Keyword tool gives you actual search volumes (numbers):

It is one of the best kept secrets out there!

The free version of Wordtracker is very good, considering its cost smile. It's provides pretty relevant information and can give you some great long tail keywords. Too bad you're only limited to 100...

The integrated AdWords keyword tool is also great, especially with the new features they have implemented with the past month that give you a better idea of keyword demands.

Those are honestly 2 of the main tools I use for my preliminary research. There really are numerous tools out there, but I've noticed that these 2 really provide the most relevant information for free tools.

I have not heard of them. The best value I have found when it comes to building websites is with a company Sitebuid it. The have all the tools under one roof. You can build sites that look good but more importantly you will get a presence on the net. It is worth spending the time to build a site hat will make money/leads/traffic.

If you are looking for free options, I would use Wordtracker and the Google keyoword tool.

If you have money to spend on a keyword tool, you may want to look into Market Samurai. I have been using it and it provides a ton of information on keywords and competition. The best part is, they are constantly updating it and adding new features.

Google keywords tool and free wordtracker tool when used together are the best and they are free. If you want still more, you can use free keyword tool from seobook.com

I think there is no need for buying any so-called sophisticated keyword tool. All you need to know can be got for free with these tools.

I never understood everyone's fascination with Keyword generators. It's much better if you determine your own keywords through analyzing analytics programs. You'll learn more about where your visitors are coming from if you're hands on.

I just wrote an article about the importance of keywords in article marketing.

There are a ton of free tools out there, and as far as suggestion tools go, the Google wheel and quintura are pretty nice. Sometimes it helps to see just the words and no numbers, especially for saving time.

If you only analyze the keywords that are bringing you traffic, you might miss a lot of opportunities (that you might not know about if you don't do a little bit of keyword research). That is not to say that looking into your Analytics doesn't have its own purpose, not at all. It can be very useful as well.
I would say combine both. My favorite keyword research tools are Google's, Keyword Discovery and Wordstream.

Is there a free service out there that will allow you to track your key word rankings?

I don't want to pay for tracking the rankings and many free, online services require an exact url. I'd rather submit the domain and a number of keywords and allow the program to figure out which pages rank the best for which key words.

There are two main reasons why I don't think you'll find such a tool.
The first is that a rank checker is simply that, i.e. it checks the SERP of given keywords against a given url.
What you are asking for is something that will crawl your site first, then check all your pages against the keywords you specify and that is a tall order.
Secondly, each page will have its own set of keywords, so to cover the bases you'd have to enter all the keywords for all the pages, and such a check would consume a lot of bandwidth.

However, one option is "freemonitorforgoogle". You can enter the url of each page you want to check and the keywords for each page, but you couldn't run a simultaneous check, it would have to be one page at a time.

keywords generators can be useful if you are making satelite sites/doorways OR you would like to know about suggestions for your website

Usually I choose 3-4 main keywords for the website and 5-10 just for articles and content updates, not the main titles

If you need to use a keyword generator then you probably are not qualified to write for the website. You can not use computer generated words properly if you do not know the subject matter. If you know the subject matter then you do not need a keyword generator.

Do not use paid programs or free based stand-alones. Use Google's keyword search tool - its the only thing that makes sense and can track your potential conversions

The Google keywords tools in Adwords are very accurate in keyword search results. Though Google is not necessarily focusing on keyword specifics anymore. They are more interested in the quality of content, if it is relative to what users are searching and keyword phrase association.

Any keyword tool is only as useful as the info to the user. There are many different tools, I personally use 4. These help to define the most profitable keywords.

If you wish to increase your websites online presence then you must also.

1. know which keywords have low competition
2. write original content
3. have said content structured correctly
4. have good site structure
5. website interlinking strategy

Read Google Webmasters guidelines if you want to truly be effective.

Last but not least and this is where most websites fail miserably, there are not well defined calls to action.

I've tried a few of these tools as well, but it seems that my best traffic comes from articles that I didn't really target a set keyword, but rather wrote about a topic I knew would be of interest, a broader keyword if you will, and a few of those really rank well and keep pulling in visitors, where most of the articles that I did a lot of keyword research on don't perform well at all.

When looking for keywords to target for my real estate website, I like to look at which keywords my competitors are ranking well for, and where they might be getting some traffic that I could outrank them for, and get that traffic. Over time, I get to target bigger and bigger keywords, the key is to start small and not over-esimate which keywords you really have a chance to rank for.

I'm sure some will find my keyword generator ineffective but it worked for me.
When first setting up my present website about 10 years ago I went to a bunch of the top Realtor's website's in my area....right clicked on the main page....clicked on "view source"....then checked all their keywords and started making a list.
