Good evening all! Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself to the board. I have been a lurker for quite a few months now. I have found this board to be the best real estate forum on the web for the down to earth and common sense advice I have read. I start my classes for my license on Thursday and am really excited to get started in the field. I am currently a cost accountant and can't wait to get started in the new and exciting world of real estate. This has been a dream of mine since I was a child but life has a way of postponing some of those dreams for better times. But now is the time and I am glad it has arrived. I have started a blog to write about my experience going through school and all my thoughts on real estate. Please feel free to stop by my site and offer criticism or praise(www.askjayhowe.com). I look forward to talking about all topics that go on here and sure I will be checking in daily for advice and help.

Welcome, and I'll check out your site. York is down near Philly, correct?

York is about 50 minutes north of Baltimore along the I-83 corrdiro. I went to college down there and have lots of friends that still live down there.

Yes 83 runs straight thru the county. I assume you went to York College? Great school.

Welcome to the world of real estate askjayhowe! You'll find this can be a VERY fun way to spend your days, mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends!

/sarcasm off/

In all seriousness... there a quite a few knowledgeable agents on this forum with loads of great advice. Don't hesitate to ask questions. When in doubt, take your time before rushing into any decisions. Some brokers will whisk you into their office and sign you up before you know what happened! Do your homework! Meet with a minimum of FIVE brokers before deciding who's your best match. Add up all your projected expenses before you affiliate... then DOUBLE that number. You'll be glad you did later.

Good luck!

Thanks Tex! I have interviewed with the six brokers. They ranged in size from a small independent broker shop to the biggest agency in our area that has about 100 agents. I am leaning towards the Century 21 office in my area. All the companies I interviewed offered the same splits to start(50/50) but this office enables me to make 100% after 23k in commissions. The training the offer will be one on one, which is a plus. I liked the other agency also but with it being the biggest one in our area I don't want to get lost in the numbers at first. They offer excellent training as well, but I feel like I will get more personalized training with the C21 office(about 30 agents). When I interviewed with them I had that gut feeling.

**EDIT** Not sure why when I quote someone it doesn't put it in a separate box. When I preview it, it shows as a separate box.

Edit Reason: Unsure why quotes aren't separated

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however.
