Basically, all the class teaches you is how to get your license. It does not teach you what to do after you get your license.

While positive thinking is a MUST, so is realistic planning.

It is simply imperative that we be realistic at the same time we EXPECT to do well. Even top producers must plan and save for possible 'down times.' That's part of strategic thinking, which is every bit as important as that 'go get'em' mentality.

I've witnessed very good agents who take six months to write their first contract... but keep doing the right things to build their business. And their business does indeed grow and prosper with time. Perseverance is a requirement in this business.

On the other hand, I've seen agents right out of real estate class get a listing and a sale within a week or two. Talent or dumb luck? Or a bit of both?

BigC said it!

remember. the best agent in the world who knows how to put a deal together is worthless unless they find the business. learn how to find the business and you will blow the competition out of the water!

when you start you have no business to maintain, so your focus should be mainly on getting business and learning hte business. study. read read read until you can answer any re question that someone can throw at you! once you can do that and you are in front of people EVERY DAY you will bring in business.
It took me six months for my first closing. As it did a friend of mine that started at the same time as I did. But if you have a good list of family and friends that might want to sell or buy like Jennifer did it could be much sooner. Besides it takes quite a while after you take the RE test to actually learn how to be an agent. At least here in Colorado passing the test doesn't help you be an agent much at all. It just teaches you the laws.
I agree I didn't feel comfortable on my own just because I had passed my state test. I asked for as much help as I could get. I am 6 months in now and I have a closing in 2 days I have another one next month. I have 1 Listing and I am working with 2 buyers. I am finally starting to get the hang of it but I know I have a lot to learn. Everyone says how bad this market is but I feel like it is the best market to learn in. Still a Part-Time agent but that will change soon.

Different, it is depend of your SOI. If you have a big one, you will make it faster, If you don't it will take you longer. I did mine on 6th month.

I read that Roger Staubach just sold his commercial real estate firm for over $600M.

I suppose he had a pretty huge SOI, wouldn't you say?
