I'm in the process of getting a real estate license. So far I've completed the principles course without much sweat. The thing is I don't know if I'll be able to go full time salesperson as I'm also studying for my accounting degree. I just want to know if there are any other opportunities out there for me holding a license.

You could do it part time, put it in referral status, or maybe be an assistant until you figure out what you want to do.

You can show and rent properties for a mgmt company and pick up future clients from the renters that you meet.

You can have your license and while you're studying for your accounting program you can be building your online presence through blogging and optimizing your website. Perhaps you may want to choose a brokerage that offers new agents training courses that you can do on your own time at your own pace.

I am going to be an Assistant Real Estate Agent. I'm not calling myself Real Estate Assistant, becuase I think that sounds more clerical. I will be a licesed agent assisting another agent. Going into RE full-time (i.e., no other job/income) wasn't an option since I haven't enough money to survive and I am a single mom. Being an Assistant Real Estate Agent will give me an almost immediate income since I'm not relying on my own leads and contacts. I won't get rich earning only part of someone else's commissions, but it is a great way to get my foot in the door and gain some experience from a mentor who will be able to focus her energies on teaching me while I help her get more clients through the door. Right now, she's so busy that leads are slipping through. In this situation, we both win. I was very lucky to get this opportunity from her (who was my Realtor last Summer). I really think if you hook up with a very successful agent, then even "assisting" and splitting commissions would be enough to make a living and pay the bills. I am going to try to sell my services to another agent, once I'm up and running and really know what I'm doing too.

Why wouldn't you just call yourself a Licensed Real Estate Assistant? It shows that you are licensed too.

It is a good idea to learn the ropes and earn some cash at the same time before jumping into this business if possible. Way too many people jump in head first and crack their skull. Ok, that was a little graphic, but you know what I mean.

Lisa, forget the assistant part. You are a licensed Realtor or a licensed real estate agent. Period. The fact that you are assisting another agent doesn't have to be everyone's business. Most agents who hire assistants describe them as being team members, perhaps a closing coordinator etc.

You will probably find that the agent will let you do some business under her license and if you sell something on your own time, you would split the commission with her. Generally when your production goes up and you don't need as much help in the transactions your split will get better. It's a great way to start and learn the biz. but I think it sounds better to introduce your self as a Realtor on the "blankety blank" team.

I have a friend who works in a team. So she earns immediate money. Does leas properties and get whatever the listing agent can't deal. So she split the commission and it is a good way to start if you don't have any support and you are part time agent. The problem is that you barely learn something and miss the most important part, how to prospecting because you got leads ready.
