Does anyone have anything they say to themselves before they go doorknocking? ie as self motivation? whats going through your head as you knock on the door?
My first day doorknocking was a short time ago: IT WAS THE MOST PAINFUL AND EQUALLY BRILLIANT DAY OF MY LIFE IN RECENT MONTHS.
I havent been out in ages: preferring to do admin stuff, pamphlet drops, email outs. I even went to see a mentor about doorknocking. I didnt want it to beat me.
But I am determined to get it down as a fine art. I know once my database/network grows big enough I wont need to do so much cold calling.
In a market saturated with agents I really want to do what the mass are afraid and reluctant to do.
Any tips would be greatfully received!
Best wishes to all.

Please note, I have never, nor will I ever door knock, but the best advice I've heard is to spend a few minutes before you start visualizing the perfect outcome. Close your eyes and go through the process step by step in your mind - knocking on the door, being greeted by the smiling homeowners, striking up a comfy conversation, being asked by the homeowner for your business card. When you start to feel happy and excited just thinking about it, then you're ready to go.

I remind myself of positive experiences that have resulted in a successful listing and purchase, Rather than the forsaleasaurrus behind the door bell.
Then I realise the vital and important service we provide.

I ask myself "What can I do to help these people, how can I be of service?"
Another is "I really need to listen to these people, that way I'm able to ask them the right questions"
Questions build rapport, questions shows that you care, your concerned about their veiw points.
Things like this get me into the right frame of mind.
I do believe one problem is this, be it on the phone or in person at the door is this thinking: I've got to get a listing or a buyer, before I've listen to their needs. What message will that convey?
Another fear is that door knocking has been stigmatized as something bad to do. We're afraid that were bothering people.
After you have knocked on a couple of doors that fear starts to go away. I have knocked on tens of thousands of doors and no one has shot me yet! By far most people will talk to you! Yes, there are some who are somewhat upset when I tell them I'm a Realtor, usually they claim they had some bad experience with a Realtor in the past. I just agree with them, because I have too, had some really bad (rude) experiences with fellow realtors.
We all know that there are homesellers and buyers that really need professional help. One characteristic that Professional Realtors need is the resolve to deal with tough situations when they present themselves.
THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION ON THE PART OF AGENTS TOWARD THEIR CLIENTS is the number one complaint. I do believe in part and I said in part some agents are afraid to communicate with people on a deeper level.
Ask yourself:"If I am afraid to knock on a door and stand face to face with another human being to help them, why am I afraid?"
Some say "well you know I don't talk to strangers." However, isn't it true most of our friends were at one time strangers?

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
