Despite the fact that I've had my Massacusetts RE license since 1991, Arizona does not recognize other states! I am planning on moving to AZ this year and wanted to do RE part-time but I have to start all over again and take the 90 hour pre-licensing course. It makes no sense! They don't even have an on-line course I can take. It just seems crazy to have to start from scratch when I've had a RE license for 17 years.

Yes, Massachusetts recognizes other states so I just assumed the others did too. Oh well, I could use a refresher course.

it has been 10 years since i moved to phoenix from ok. however i think that you only have to take the few hours of class time , however you have to take the complete test.

Idaho recognizes several states. I am in the process of getting my Oregon license, mostly because I don't have to take any test at all, not even the state test! The eastern part Oregon is only 60 miles from me and in my MLS.

Hi Everyone,
I am an aspiring Realtor and am glad I found this site and plan on spending a lot of time checking out the previous posts. I'm glad I found this one because I have a few questions about reciprocity.
First off, I'm currently in Illinois and right now Illinois has reciprocity with 10 states. What exactly does that mean? Does that mean I can become a licensed agent in all 10 of those states at the same time?
Assuming that's what it means, do I need to join 10 different brokerages? Just to clarify, I'm not looking at becoming licensed in 10 states, I'm just using it as an example.
As "Pikes Peak" noted in a previous post, Colorado has it with 25 states. So can I be licensed in Illinois, and Colorado (one of the 10 Illinois is with), and then have access to the 25 states that works with Colorado?
Again, I'm just curious how all of this works. I'm not trying to become licensed in every state, just wondering how it works. Can you even be licensed in more than one state at the same time?
OK, I think that's enough questions for my first post! Thanks for reading and I'll look forward to some responses.

You would need to look at the detailed specifics that are agreed upon between each state. Some states you will have take the state exam, some no exam. You may or may not have to hang your license with a brokerage. And don't forget the fees involved in each state to maintain your license, such as license renewal, MLS fees, E&O insurance fees, etc.
I am currently getting my license in Oregon, why, because it is 60 miles away and best of all they didn't require me taking any test, not even the state test. One caveat is that my broker has to remain licensed in Oregon and I keep my license without the test.
If I owned my own brokerage, I would have to take the state exam for Oregon.
Our Real Estate Commission has all the reciprocity agreements available online and I was able to read each of them to see what stipulations each state had for reciprocity licensing.
Hope that helps!

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
