Do they work for signing docs in .doc or PDF? I am thinking of getting one to simplify the doc-signing process.

I have one and thought the exact same thing. I tried initially to figure it out, but got too busy. I just tried it in .doc and it didn't work easily. As for PDF, no again, I tried with our state contracts, but that field has to be allowed for a signature. I have the full version of Adobe Acrobat and was able to get to the field, but I couldn't save it with the signature. Our state, I believe, is looking into digital signature, but not the same.

I've had my Toshiba for about 1.5 years and really like it. It is great for taking notes in classes (provided you have access to a power supply) and then being able to just print the notes later. It impresses people when you can take notes this way!

If you are looking into one, be sure it has a Wacom brand digital screen, Wacom is the best and works the best. I believe Gateway and HP do not use Wacom digitizer screens.

Mine also has voice recognition and writing recognition and does pretty well on both.

Any other questions, let me know and I'll try to answer them!

You know everything we sign in RE is sent to us in either Word, pdf, or some other document form.

I would only buy one if it would enhance my business.

Me too, I'm really not computer savvy but have been looking at them..What one would be the best to get?? there seems to be many options..What is the average price for one..And for JBT do you think buying it was worth it(besides for the computer part)?

I've looked into them several times and decided against it. I like the idea of signing contracts, but I don't think our online contracts have the capablity.

If you can save your forms to a pdf you can use Doccusign to get electronic signatures. It can do signatures, initials and also date stamp. Awesome program , clients can sign everything from their desk without coming in.Great tool.

UpNorthGal - Other not being able to sign docs, I really like it. I got it for about $1200 a year and half ago. It was one of the lowest priced ones when it came out and had a ton more features than the HP or Gateway. I think they can run closer to $2000. But after extensive research, I went with Toshiba, because the digital screen was the most reliable. I like that I can switch to writing notes directly on the screen and its portability. It came with a crossword puzzle game that you can download daily puzzles and write your answers on the screen and an art program, my daughter likes. It also has a finger print reader, so I can keep a list of all my log-ins in the "safe" and know they are encrypted and no one else can get to them, not even my five year old who has tried.

In the end, I probably don't really use it to its capacity and all its features. But I really like it.

Oli - I'll have to check into Docusign and see if it will work on our forms.

Yes, and it's great. If you've used a tablet you know you can never go back. I don't understand why they still sell desktops.

You can sign docs on the screen! Just print them to Journal Note Writer, sign them and then use a pdf converter to print them to a format that you can email to anyone.

Why they still sell Desktops / Laptops - because tablets are nice but not as powerful as a desktop or laptop. I would love a tablet for playing around but I need my laptop for doing my photo editing, burning CDs and DVDs, etc.

Maybe in a few years new technology will make that obsolete...but I still prefer my larger screen size and my keyboard for my heavy computer work...I can't imagine using a tablet to do everything I do.

This article mentions that the tablet is a great entertainment device, and that I can probably agree with.

I love my iPhone but I can't imagine using it often for email. It's annoying. A tablet is certainly bigger but still, I hate virtual keyboards for the most part. So as long as laptops are still available, that's what I'll be using. smile

Desktops puzzle me - I don't like to be forced to sit at a desk. I <3 my laptop being able to join me in the recliner, in bed, on the sofa...a tablet would be good for reading articles, surfing the net, watching movies, etc...but I can't imagine using it 100% of the time for my day to day tasks.

A tablet PC is a laptop. It does everything my desktop does. I have had one (not the same one) for 8+ years. The screen swivels around and lays down on the keyboard if you want to sign a contract or make notes on listings. It lets me go paperless. The first one I had was a toshiba and this one is a dell. They are nothing like an IPad. Until you swivel the screen around you would think its a laptop....full function keyboard....open multiple programs at once.

The first one had a cd/dvd drive built in and the Dell came with one that hooks up with a USB if you need it.
