Just getting started as a agent and would like to get an idea what agents wear.

-During open houses
-At sales meeting
-At sales training
-Showing houses
-Listing presentations
-FSBO or Expired presentations or first contacts (when you knock on the door)

Thanks,

Brad

Almost always wearing either business dress or business casual with my name tag. It makes me feel confident and professional.

When I'm showing properties in the winter, I will wear jeans and boots. If I'm going to be tromping around in the grass showing land, I'll wear jeans and sneakers or boots. Depends on where I'll be. In the summer I often wear dressy shorts or skirts with sandals (no stockings).

Meetings and trainings depend. If I have nothing else on the schedule for the day I will show up dressed down and comfy in sweats and sneakers.

Dress for the task at hand. I would not wear the same cloths meeting with a buyer that happens to be a relocating professional in need of residential housing that I would wear if I was walking 50 acres of farm land with an avid sportsman (even if it turned out to be the same person).

I'm a big fan of the new Geoffrey Beene CENTURY 21 Gold Jackets. Very, very cool. The old ones (which were discontinued a decade ago) were dated. But the new ones are stylish and fun to wear.

I got mine two weeks ago and get complements every day. I love that I can throw it over virtually anything. The fabric is amazing (soft but looks like a fine camel hair).

You can see what they look like here: http://c21goldwear.edgereports.com/accessories.htm

The most amazing thing is how many folks will come up to you and talk real estate. I've had folks come up to me in the shopping line and at a restaurant. It really is like a walking billboard (without being tacky).

I would love a nice windbreaker from Weichert. Problem is I dislike most of the corporate clothing with the exception of the polo shirts.

For the most part, slacks and a long sleeve shirt sometimes with tie and sometimes without. However, it all depends on the situation and the client.

This is totally corny and I don't care if you think I'm a dork, but...
We all must be Realtors to be in the MLS in my area (I know it's not the case in many other markets) and even if I have no makeup or rat's nest hair, if I'm out doing anything remotely work-related, even going to the post office in sweats, I wear my Realtor "R" pin.

People do see it and I am proud of it. Matter of fact, I am going to buy the bigger one so it stands out better.

Our immediate past Association President (awesome lady) said in her earliest days, she began wearing her "blue badge of courage" proudly and it gave her strength and confidence.

I thought it was dorky at first, too, but then I realized that when I wear it, I feel more...I don't know...official.

Whether I'm showing in broiling heat wearing shorts and a polo or in a gale force nor'easter bundled up to my eyeballs, the second I put on the R pin I mean business and I love displaying it when working with clients.

Oh--and otherwise, I'm in PJs, because I work from home!

Business casual.....

Steve I think it's more that century 21 has been advertising a ton lately and I see them on hgtv all the time. That's probably a big part of what's redriving exposure for c21.

I think the bigger issue is to be yourself and not be fake.If you feel confortable with the client you will want to do a better job for them and if there is huge friction it will be a bad fit for all involved.

Usually T-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops. I'll dig in the closet for a nice shirt and slacks for an actual listing appointment, but it's been a long time since I've done that.

Just for the record, right now I'm wearing my red checkered pajama bottoms, a tank top, and fury slippers. What are you wearing? Ha ha!

At the time of my post, I was wearing a fuzzy pink terry cloth robe and blue velour slippers.

Now, I'm wearing a red dress top, black slacks with red pin stripes...and muddy sneakers. I was going on a listing appointment today that required me to walk around on 16 acres of land...and I forgot to take my dress shoes to change into. lol

So now, I look really dorky with my office attire and muddy Nikes.

Brad,

I think it all depends on what you're doing and who you're doing it with. The following is what I usually wear for these certain events.

Sales Meetings = jeans, sweater/t-shirt, tennis shoes

Anything Client/Prospect Related = dress pants, button dress shirt, sometimes a tie, dress shoes

And if a client of mine asks me to show them a home on a last minute notice, I will let them know that I may be wearing jeans and I hope that doesn't bother them. The usual response I get back is "Are you kidding? I could care less what you're wearing. You could be in sweat pants for all I care!"

I think my clients are ok with it because they know I am very knowledgeable and I am good at what I do. They just want my service.

When you're tromping around snowy, muddy horse pastures and farm land, I would look goofy wearing pinstripe slacks and heels, now wouldn't I?

No, I'm not kidding you. A professional dresses appropriately for the situation at hand.

Today I was showing lakefront property in black slacks and loafers (no heels or the steep, wet leaf covered walkways down to the water would have been the death of me) - had I been going up on the mountain to muck around with horse poop and wandering around barns and stone walls, I would have had the jeans and boots.

Victor seemed to ignore my first sentence in order to make fun of my second.

I'd love to see him showing property when there's a foot of snow on the ground! ha ha

Rural PA ain't suburbia!

Here's a far-fetch question but I'd ask it anyways:

Do you claim your business apparel as a legitimate business expense?

Anybody wear coat and ties anymore? I don't want to wear a tie but I might do it for the clients sake. It might make the clients feel more comfortable and confident in my abilities.

fatmaxxv, the IRS disallows claiming business attire as a deduction. If the job required steel toed shoes, hardhats, welder's gloves or uniforms, those types of things may be claimed.

My thinking exactly.

I was showing a rural farm a couple weeks ago. The other agent wanted to meet us on the property, and she showed up in her Mercedes sedan, fur coat and heels.

She promptly got her vehicle stuck in the dirt entrance (it had snowed/rained quite a bit), got out and lost her shoe in the mud and didn't make a very favorable impression on anyone. \:\)

A big gigantic silver belt buckle the size of Rhode Island, and a .38 strapped to the hip, most likely. ;\)

I have no problem selling in shorts, flip flops and t-shirts. In a resort town you have to look the part. I tried the tie and jacket and it didn't work.
