SEO pros, I need some advice. We are currently on page three of google searches for Detroit Real Estate. Obviously we want to be on page one. Thanks for your help.

It looks like you very recently did a bunch of work on your sites - so the first thing you need to do is be patient as it will take months for the changes to be factored in to the rankings.

You redirected hummelrealestate.com to hummelcompanies.com/hummel-real-estate/mainpage and that is not yet reflected in the rankings.

The most important thing you can do in the months to come while waiting for the changes to begin to be reflected in Google is to acquire many good incoming links with your keywords in the link text - preferably without starting up a link directory on your own site.

Also, I would use the description meta tag and also the keyword metag in your pages. They still are of some value.

Another thing I would take a look at is your navigation and links - you have "Hummel Real Estate" going to the Detriot real estate page and links to "Detroit real estate" going to the page about Hummel Companies. This is not helping you - if you switch that around it would

There are a few other things that could be fiddled with but really the main issues are the lack of good incoming links and the time factor.

I would not bother with meta keyword tags unless I had free time on a weekend and had nothing better to do. There are a thousand different things you can pursue in terms of SEO, and meta keyword tags are bottom of the barrel.

Not all the time, if it is with Google they update daily their back links internally causing the change in SERP result more often than a month.

Just continue building relevant links to your website.

Do not believe the keyword tag is used by google any more. Unique Title, unique description, H1, H2, ... and keywords and keyword stemming in 1st paragraph (especially) and littered through the text.

Do not keyword stuff - if it right for the reader, it is probably OK for Google.

Taking a look at your niche market Detroit real estate, it's a very competitive market. For you to get to the first page on Google with that keyword is going to take you some time and a lot of effort. Try to study your competitors, find out how many links they have and where they are getting it from and try to build more quality links than they have. Don't try to game the system as doing it will get you into trouble and defeat the purpose. Make sure you blog regularly, comment on blogs, forums. With all this in place, you stand a better chance to come up in page one. Nothing is impossible, it requires only our dedication and effort to turn impossibility to possibility.
