Kapic Realty, that was very unexpected and quite...Far Side like.

Which explains why my first reaction was to snort, rather than be appalled.

Then, I was appalled that I wasn't appalled.

Thanks for the complex.

I am switching over to the email provided free with my GoDaddy website. From a geek perspective, gmail is fine, yahoo and hotmail aren't too bad but not great, and if your email is anything@aol.com people will think that you are not very tech-savvy.

I HATE AOL mail. Netscape was my first email provider, and it was good. Eventually it merged or something with AOL and it's s.....l.....o......w..... Makes me crazy. I'd cancel the account entirely except they make it almost impossible to do so. I just let it fill up with junk mail. It's too painful even to delete the stuff. If they want to bog up their server with an inactive account, it ain't my problem.

I had netscape for a while, when I made my first bold move away from Internet Explorer. I felt so...geeky. \:\)

My email address is cumbersome to give out but then I never even consider giving it out to someone. I would rather they give me their email address and then they can just hit reply after I send them something. That way I am not waiting for them.

The free email companies have heavy handed spam filters, mostly to save on server space but it is something they brag about being a customer service.

If they consider one of your important emails to be spam, you lose. I would rather sift through the spam and pick out the good stuff.

We have been experiencing problems with clients who have free email accounts. Emails routinely go missing especially with the freebies.

i have no spam filters on my account. i also do not use that account when i sign up for any services(keeps spam down). just like Bigtoe, i would rather filter through the spam instead of loose an importand document.

My emails to yahoo and msn are almost always blocked. Unfortunately, I don't find out about it for a day or so. I'd never take that chance with my own email address.

You can have multiple email addy's on Gmail. I think I'll go add one that's more real-estate oriented, now that ya'll mention it.

Gmail really is excellent.

I have never lost something I wanted to the gmail spam filter (I check the spam box frequently.) The only error gmail has with spam is it occasionally lets spam thru.

What you see in the spam box is the stuff they let go through. There is a ton of stuff that never makes it to your spam box or your in box because it is filtered out at the server level.

If you do not get an email then you do not know that it did not come through. We send out a lot of emails and the free accounts are hit or miss. If you are just using email to communicate with established clients then free is no problem but if you are looking for leads/new clients to come in via email??

I'm an AgentsOnline newbie in 6th year selling full time and I'm always a little surprised when a well-respected agent/broker I'm dealing with uses free e-mail. (No offense to anyone!) but it looks kind of unprofessional to me. Just IMO.
Makes me wonder how tech savvy they are in other realms of business, and what kind of communication I can expect with them if we strike a deal. I wonder if they're the type who rely heavily on their AA's or office help to do all of their work for them.
Got one of them working right now--only u/c a day now and already the other agent has vanished into thin air. Fine with me on this particular deal, though...I love their AA!

You're of course free to make those kinds of assumptions, but frankly, I think agents are way too obsessed with image - agents think people won't trust their skills if they drive the wrong car, wear the wrong clothes, etc.

You know what? I really don't care. I don't care what other agents think. If they want to restrict themselves fine...if they want to jump through hoops to satisfy the ridiculous expectations of other agents fine.

If your buyer said they wanted to buy my listing, would you say "No, I'm sorry, I wouldn't suggest it because they have a free email address and they're probably unprofessional. Let's look at another house instead."

How RIDICULOUS does that sound when you put it that way?

I get a respectable amount of customer contact with my gmail address - all I have to worry about is pleasing THEM with my service. As my website gains ranking and more traffic, I expect a lot more of the same.

I couldn't care less if other agents wonder how "professional" I am based on whether I use gmail or me@wallenpaupacklakeproperty.com Can't help it that my market area has a long difficult name to pronounce and spell. Makes more sense to have an easy address for people to spell and remember.

I am a gmail user. It works great and never had any issues. I also use Googles Adwords which work amazing on getting my ads on google.com and gmail.

I have about 6 free email addresses just cuz they're free. You may want to consider an address from mail.com. you can customize the email address to look as professional as you would like.
