Currently our company has a website at http://www.5662121.com and is thinking about forwarding this address to http://www.century21.ca/colonialrealty which is a subdomain of the national Century 21 Canada page. Although there are not a huge amount of links to http://www.5662121.com I would still like to keep them. Will all of these "disappear" if I redirect my traffic?

Thank you.

As long as you use a 301 Permanent redirect you will continue to receive the benefit of those links for as long as the links exist.

Definitely yes, it will affect your seo... but as long as you keep all the links redirected, you will still have a chance... but remember that redirection is not good in seo... it is not qualified for indexing on SEs..

i think it will affect your seo as well. some sites that you swap links with will drop your links once their software picks up you have done a redirect. just what i have been noticing as rules from certain links.

as long as you redirected the old links to the new domain i think everything would be okay. changing domain is a very crucial not only for seo but for branding

This change should affect your seo positively due to the fact that the new domain name is actually letters/words that have something to do with real estate, rather than random numbers. Bing and Yahoo in particular favor pages where the domain name has something to do with the search term.

As mentioned already it's vital to use 301 redirects from the old not search engine or human friendly domain to the new one so your links don't dead end.

Hi,
Agreed. This will surely affect your SEO.
Yes redirection is not good but the benefits of changing the domain names will sum up the effects. Human friendly domains have their own importance in other search engines like yahoo and bing. This will be very fruitful for your site.

Hi,
I always feel that, domain name with actual letters/words helps in SEO more than numbers. Human friendly domains have their own importance in other search engines like yahoo and bing.
Now, about the benefits of inlinks of the old domain, as long as you use a 301 Permanent redirect you will continue to receive the benefit of those links for as long as the links exist.

I would only recommend forwarding a domain if you want to destroy your existing website. When you forward your site to another site, slowly you destroy your existing site's ranking. I would keep the current site, and build a second one on the other URL. Also what if you change companies and you have pulled the plug on your original website?

I wish people who are not sure about what they are answering would not answer with such authority.

If you use a 301 redirect and point the old site at the new site then all the authority of the old site will point to the new site and all your back links will point to the new site. Been there, did that.
