WHOOHOO!!

I enter (and win) a lot of contests. We haven't paid for a vacation in 4 years (Disneyworld from HP, Breakers in Palm Beach from Allure magazine, Cruise to Mexico from local radio station, hair makeover from Oxygen in Pasedena)

Today I received this from a photo contest I entered at Casar dog food!

Very cool! I need to be looking for places to enter photos, too. Best I've done is my dog being featured on the Weather Channel one day...and that was only good for fame and glory (which doesn't pay well) and a photo of the day from Kodak, which featured my photo on display for a day at Times Square in NYC. Great ego boosts, but no fee-paid trip (boo hoo).

How cool!!!

I took a picture of a bald eagle once that landed on the branch outside my window, and sent it to the local TV station. They featured my picture on the afternoon weather broadcast. That was pretty neat. Not as neat as a CALENDAR though!

Congrats!

lol, I spend a lot of time waiting around in airports.

Airports have free wi-fi nowadays, so I make the most of it and enter contests \:\)

It's my reward for having to wait around.

Wow and I never enter contests because I think that no one actually wins and it's just a scam to get your phone number! Another thing I'm wrong about!

A friend of mine, once entered my name and address in a competion for a laugh, because he was being pressured to enter by a sales representative.

He was not so amused when I won the 6 week trip to India.

Did you really win a trip to Naples, FL? When I was a project manager the company I worked for built the Ritz Carlton! I'll keep an eye out for Princess Paris

If you need any recommendations for places to go or good restaurants let me know.

You are at the golf course Ritz Carlton which is inside Tiburon. It is a Greg Norman designed golf course and annual home of the Merril Lynch Shootout. The hotel overlooks the golf course. Very nice place with palm tree lined streets and large fountains. I drive past it every day.

Here's Heide the BPO Dog. I saved her last week from a terrible rescue operation and she is the best dog ever. She was in bad shape, but is coming along and loves to BPO!

Wow she looks waaaay younger than that. I would guess around 4. Her nose coloring is great, and her teeth look fabulous.

Yay you for rescuing her!

I have alot of work to do to get her correct waterproof coat back - most people shear these instead of plucking and they end up with the soft fluffy coats. The waterproof coat keeps them cleaner but it takes work once they are screwed up - plus she had a skin infection and is missing huge patches of any hair! She had bleeding sores where she was chewing herself, and horribly matted hair. She was also horribly detached and didn't interact with dogs or people in the house.

She also just finished heartwom treatment in June, and was about 3 lbs overweight (alot for a 14 lb dog). She has two bad teeth but we might be able to salvage them.

I just want to help her be healthy and give her a happy place to sleep! I just find it sad that she was in such bad shape at a freaking non-profit rescue! Once that lady cashes my check, I am calling the authorities on her. She had about 25 dogs, all matted, all overweight. I know the woman has good intentions, I think she needs to be reminded of her limitations, however.

And yay everyone who loves a dog smile

So cute. I was a foster parent for the local shelter for years. Then I fell in love with one little guy. Lucky, a great pom, has been with me for 8 years since then. He waits to be told it is okay to get out of the car when I am doing BPO's

Psst TB - do NOT have her plucked, she needs to be stripped. If properly stripped she will never shed.

I was, maybe incorrectly, using the terms interchangeably. All my Norwich Terrier breeder friends say both. I will see if there is a difference 'cause I want to fix her right! They say with the right coat, they smell less and almost never require a bath. Actually it's recommended you NOT bathe them, as it discourages the waterproof coat.

Luckily, thus far, she isn't a big shedder.

!! No other furniture!!

My dogs use our sofas more than we do. I haven't set foot in the living room or the loft in over a month, yet they sit on the back of the sofa in the living room and look out the window all day, and lounge around on the sofas in the loft in the evening!

My doggies sleep in bed with me, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I might think different with a toy breed...but these dogs enjoy life in the country which includes the barn, manure...a pond and various other dirty deeds...I do more laundry for them most of the time...LOL... they have limited access to the rest of the house. The office/dogs room is where I spend most of the day and they are allowed that luxury. ps...I do nap with them on the futon...with winter coming on they are looking foward to their favorite treat...Poopcicles!

Poopcicles!! *dies*

True, my dogs combined weigh less than your dogs head.

Two five pound dogs aren't even noticeable in a king size bed. And my dogs are little ladies. They both abhor poop. We have to clean their yard daily or my Chihuahua will just stomp around and give me dirty looks while we're outside, like she can't believe I want her to go where someone already went.

My girls are the opposite of dirty dogs. After I shower, before I toss the towel in the laundry pile my Chihuahua likes me to lay it on the ground and she rubs her face all over the damp towel, my husband calls it her shower. smile

These are my Favorite Alabama Mississippi Bird Dogs. Pets always seem to take on some of the physical attributes of those around them; and vice versa.

I was thinking of you when I changed it. Any Mississippi People on here are shy (so far).
These Houn Dawgs have a high tolerance for being manipulated; and certainly know how to hold a pose.

Ok, here's my handsome guy - Clyde. Thinks he should rule the house and, of course, go everywhere I go. He's a Chow-Lab mix, 12-1/2 yrs. old.

Clyde is very sweet to people he knows. He has a prankster streak in him and he gets a kick out of playing little tricks on our other Alpha male, Lil Deuce, when he has the chance. Like, he'll catch the little guy asleep on the foot of the bed and he'll walk by and poke him in the butt with his nose (scares the little guy half to death). Clyde just walks away grinning. I'll post a shot of Lil Deuce when I can get him to sit still so I can take one.

Hello Pace:

I don't know how others do it; but I went to Photo Bucket at:

http://www.photobucket.com

and registered; uploaded the photo(s) that I might want to share; and then use the IMG address created by Photo Bucket to insert in the Full Reply screen over here on the Forum, AFTER clicking on the "Insert an Image" icon.

Seemed convoluted at the beginning; but now I can do it with my eyes closed (of course, then I wouldn't be able to select a photo!)

Only thing I can recommend further is to make sure your image is not TOO BIG; otherwise, it will mess with everybody else's screen width and they'll have to leave the Forum and come back in to reset. I have had to delete some pictures; make them smaller; and then re-insert the new images to avoid this problem, or dis-courtesy.

Someone else will now post a simpler method . . . . but this is mine - Which I got from bpoBill. Hope this helps!

Photobucket is what I use. Get an account, upload your photos, paste the link (I can't remember which one - there are a few options under each photo) in the reply box and it will display in the thread.

Awwwwwwwwww. She's just too cute. I love the expression on her face. It almost looks like she saying, "Yeah, I'm cute. But don't mess with me." LOL

Ah, thought it was time to revive the dog thread. smile

This is Houston D. Hound Dog, 11 months old (the red heeler on top) and Ge'dogg, our 2-1/2 yr old Weimaranar/Sharpei/Vizla mix. They were playing on the waterbed a couple nights ago.

I snapped the picture on my phone when they took a break to catch their breaths.

Ge'dogg & Houston are in the picture above at 12/21/11. Here's Pup Fran (who is now 3), our German shepherd/treeing walker mix, and Clyde Eugene (who is 15-1/2), our black lab/chow mix.

No, I don't foster - these are all our very own rescued hounds, lol. Depending on how Clyde stands, he either looks like a black bear, or a black wolf. smile

Miss Indy is not out of the woods yet. I was afraid we were gonna lose her last night - she's not eating much. She seems better today. I am taking her back to the vet tomorrow to weigh her & see what more we can try to feed her. She's such a sweet & loving hound. I'm really hoping she can recover from all the neglect. (I'm willing to feed her absolutely anything at this point, if she'll just eat it!)

Well, Miss Indy didn't make it. frown The bottom line is she was suffering kidney failure & there was no recovering from that. We made the rational decision to let her go. I'm pretty torn up this afternoon, but really glad we were able to give her a name and a good, loving home, surrounded by puppy buddies who treated her well. The Rainbow Bridge lady is cremating her for us.

Thanks, Newton. Not only have we grieved her loss, but so have the puptots. They're finally calming back down but for a few days, Ge'dogg & Houston did not want to come to bed at night, tore up everything in the house that they could get into, and kept looking for her.

edited to add: we decided we liked her so much that we've looked all over for another young female Treeing Walker Coonhound. We've applied to adopt a 2-yr old in southern IN and are waiting to hear if we get approved or not. smile

Been a tough month around our house for dogs. We had to put our old dog, Clyde, down this morning. He was 15 yrs. 9 months. I'd had him since he was 3 months old. Talk about sad! Here's his picture from last summer, when he was still in relatively good health and acting like a "grandpa" to our youngest pup, Houston. He was a chow/lab mix - his eyes glowed red & his teeth were bright white when the lights shined on him in the dark, lol. He will be missed by the 2- and 4-leggeds at our house.

Here's that little coony girl we applied to adopt back in February. We drove to Indiana the weekend after Presidents' Day to pick her up. Her name is Faith and she's really almost 4 yrs old. She'd been in foster care about 2 years! The foster guy really liked her but said he was very happy to see her get a 'forever family'. She's delightful! Looks like she's grinning every time she drops that lower jaw to pant. She's close to all of the dogs.

Here she and Fran are trying to decide what they'd more like to do - come in the house or go back to the gate & bark at something, lol.

Good to see you here, ditty!

This guy found my son last year. He's really a dog. We have to lock him up when we go for a walk or he'll come with us. His name is Jack, so I dub this picture, Jack in the Box.

"Jack in the Box" - I love it!

We had a cat who would go for walks with us. He'd lag about 3' behind, eyeing all the bushes. We thought of him as our "rear guard". This was out in a small, rural town with lots of growth along the road.

Thanks for the compliment Barb. That is "Suzi" and she is the family Basenji. She is three, and like the breed she does not bark. Basenjis as you may know have a voice box, but only make sounds either when yodeling or whimpering. She does little of either, thus she is silent about 99% of the time.

She is a very sweet dog, but is dumb as a rock. I hope that doesn't sound rude, but she certainly isn't the brightest bulb in the K-9 world, that's for sure! We love her though, there is no denying that.

Miss Suzi is pretty young. She may surprise you over the years & prove herself to be one clever, thoughtful dog!

We had a dog who we thought was dumber than a box of rocks, though sweet as he could be & we loved him dearly. His name was Brownie, even though he was primarily black in color with a little white & tan. At the age of 12, he finally came out of his shell. He was very clever, and he could manage the younger dogs - he'd break up fights, comfort the dog who'd lost or a dog who was hurt or frightened by a thunderstorm. He'd come & get us if he thought one of the kids or the dogs needed attending to. He had developed a real knack of knowing what was going on around the house.

He ended up being one of the best dogs we've ever known.

I agree with Barb about Suzi. We had a Great Dane, that poor kid was a complete dumb A$$. He would trip and fall, run right into a wall, run to the wrong door when somebody knocked. One day bit a chunk out our wall for no reason? The vet told us he would grow out of it, alot of dog, not much brains as a pup.

Sure enough by his 4th Birthday, Luke was sharp as a tack!

The only problem is that Suzi is an "only child". So there won't be an influence of other dogs in the house assisting in her intellectual development. I agree three is young for her, but she is the third basenji we have had and the only command she knows is "sit.". We have tried other simple commands like stay or shake, and she just doesn't get it.

Our family nickname for her is moron. It's mean I know, but at this point deserving. Our other two basenjis were very, very smart. Certainly what Suzi lacks in smarts, she makes up in sweetness. She doesn't have a malicious bone in hey body, and given the choice of the two I would rather have the sweetness.

Loc: My BPO Dungeon :)
Not really Barb. The dog(s) that my wife and I have had, have been for her benefit and now our 11 year old son. I am not really a pet person, but I don't wish to deprive my son of the experience as he grows up. The deal with my wife and son, was one pet. Being former basenji owners, we choose Suzi. I am glad we did, but one pet is enough for me.

I am very allergic to cat dander, so that won't happen.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however.
