I think online chat is one of those interesting tools - but not necessarily a very good one on conversion of those "leads" over to actual customers.

No, because half the time my site wouldn't have anyone on there to chat with customers...and if I'm doing something on the computer during the day chances are I don't have time to chat with people...though I think it's a great idea if you have a licensed assistant to monitor the chat for you. (licensed so they can answer real estate questions legally)

This is beneficial if you have a big operation as other mentioned you can't be online 24/7 but you can hire people to do this. It is beneficial for the business because customers can easily ask questions about your product

We use olark.com. It's pretty nifty and very minimalistic - like facebook chat.

Hi captain21. I would like to share with you some benefits of live chat software. You can offer instant help to your users. Users are able to leave you a message if you are offline. You can monitor your website and see the source of your visitors. You can initiate the conversation if they are potential customers for you. I think you can at least make your website more popular with live chat feature on your website.

Well I have re looked at the live chat and put it on my site. I have a landing page that clients go to for advanced mls search system similar to a idx system and put the live chat on top of the where the clients log on. Today is the first day. On my old site I had a forum that had worked well for 5 years but there is no more support from the forum company. It was unstable. The cool thing about the chat is I can see people log in in real time. Went with Quick chat a very easy to install and configure wordpress plugin.

I think live chat is great only if you have someone that can work it all day. The biggest turn off is when you see live chat offline on a website. If you won't use it it is best not to have.

I use Zopim... they give you 1 free domain account... it integrates into your smart phone (google talk) last month i was on "realtors triple play" in atlantic city... someone desided to chat, i forwarded info to one my agent... next day they went to show property... how cool is that? and it is free :)

Very popular of late - have heard lots of good things about it. Questionable data on conversion rates, though.

If you are never online it's not going to work.
If you can't type it's not going to work.
If you can't answer the questions people pose quickly it's not going to work.

I use zopim and though it's only resulted in a few deals, that still works out to $xx,xxx in income. I turn it on whenever I'm at my computer for a decent amount of time and while most visitors don't use it I find people are much more likely to start chatting vs. filling in a form.

Like most online ventures it's a bit of a numbers game. I average around 350 hits a day on my site, but if I averaged 8 I don't know that it would be worth the time of setting it up and logging in each time.

I think live chat is good to interact with potential clients, even if there is no one to manage it 24/7 it can still be beneficial.Though i don't see how it helps in SEO.

How do you engage the visitors-- like, what's your first question when they "come in the door"?
