I would like to get some feedback on a septic inspection with new construction. My client is not aganist getting one but is it nessasary or would it be just a waste of money. What kind of problems can be found at this point?

Waste of money if it is New Construction. The Septic system is new and empty! It will definately pass the test

Thanks for your responces. I have spoke to home inspectors and also a septic inspector and have gotten all the same responces. No inspection necessary. Thanks again.

Just be sure they got a permit for it. We have lived in this house 20 years purchased after it was built and had to put in new septic system and there is no record on file for original permit and location of old system was not correct so we had to get a variance for the new septic system drain field because it was close to the outdoor sprinkler well system. It took several months for the county to approve it and tank had to be pumped several times till it was resolved.
Part of the problem is they changed the laws since it was built and we were trying to get an existing tank grandfathered in. Well a few days before Xmas we got out new field and now the yard looks like a beach. A word of advice check for permits.

Please make sure that a permit was taken out and all inspections were signed off by the municipal septic inspector. Here in PA we have an SEO Sewage Enforcement Officer who is an extension of the PA DEP. The job of the SEO is to approve and oversee the installation.

Don't think that an inspection is a waste because even under these circumstance we have found very bad problems that had to be correct because they were causing or were going to cause a failure.

Not all SEO's are alike and some may still be playing the "Good Ol'e Boys" club and not take his/her job seriously.

A home should be lived in for 30 days full time occupancy before a good evaluation can take place. If you inspectors only do a "dye test" which is a joke, then don't bother having them look at it at all.

See this link for information on dye tests.
