Hell. I got fired by my first client today, a buyer who felt I was not aggressive enough. I disagree with her on several points, but really I am NOT a shark, and I like that my first clients hired me because I didn't seem like the "stereotypical" agent. I will survive this, and I will be fired and yelled at again, I'm sure. If I were in therapy I could discuss with my therapist why I so very much NEED to be liked by everyone; instead I got into real estate so I can learn some people won't like me and it's okay.

I got fired more than once for not being mean enough. But every time it happened, I was already miserable working with the person - they always knew WAY more about real estate and negotiating than all the agents in Denver combined and had no respect for the process. I don't think I was ever regretful for losing them - well, after a few hours.

Hey Deb, I agree with the therapy-thing. I so want everyone to like me, and am just waiting for my first client to fire me. I've had a buyer disappear, but I think it was to check out the other side of town. But it'll happen, and I'll be sad, then angry, then do what your sig says -- not stay down.
This week will be better!!

Next time strike first. Firing them feels real good. If it doesn't fit, get rid of it.

I have my buyer's sign the exclusive agency agreement. If they aren't gonna buy with me as their agent, they won't with anyone else either. I just have one question........ if they're not going to buy through you, why would you want to tie the client to you like that? Is there any reward in it for you? Not trying to bust your chops or anything, just truly curious. Linda

It will happen, on to the next. This is a competitive business. There are "Sharks" out their but not many. Nobody wants to work with an a$$. So if the client did not like your approach to business, let them go (or let them let you go). On to the next. I have my buyer's sign the exclusive agency agreement. If they aren't gonna buy with me as their agent, they won't with anyone else either. That is the most idiotic, self centered, a$$ holeish comment I have heard in a very long time. I only left out the term retarded because i'm sure that a mentally retarded person would have more sense than your comments.

Exactly what is wrong with using an exclusive agency contract? Nothing, but the way you stated it, it seemed like you want to use it as a trap or a weapon. That kind of attitude won't take you far.

Thanks, guys! I'm learning to let go of this pathological "everyone must like me!" thing There will be other buyers who will be happier with me and whom I will enjoy more. I sent a nice email to them, the new agent, the mortgage guy who had referred them to me, and my principal, wishing them well. Only the mortgage guy replied, and told me it was classy. Yay!

I have my buyer's sign the exclusive agency agreement. If they aren't gonna buy with me as their agent, they won't with anyone else either. These things aren't worth the paper they are written on. Courts are consumer friendly and if you try to sue because they didn't like you and worked with another agent you will lose. The only time these will hold up in court is if they are blatantly using you.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
