Ethic Violation?

A salesperson in my office forwarded an email that seems to be anti-Muslim. Although it seems to be an anti-terror type of email, it groups all Muslims as dangerous. I would think forwarding this type of email within a real estate office would be a big no-no.

You are kidding right? WHy would this be a big no-no? Last time I checked Terrorists were no a protected class! You say it "seems" to be anti-Muslim? Well is it or is it Not? No, I am NOT kidding. It refers to Muslims. Last I checked, not all Muslims are terrorists.

Typical! You ask for opinions and fail to disclose all the relevant data such as wording of the letter and exact content instead of how you read it.
Back to the point you say it "Seems" to be but you are obviously not sure.

Paul Oaks, Sometimes things arent spelled out plainly and you have to make an observation. Whats up with the open hostility. TD1 should be applauded for trying to be sure his office mates are being ethical.Isnt that a standard we are all supposed to uphold both in our professional and personal lives? Paul

Paul, Sorry to disappoint you but there is no hostility. I am just calling it like it is. Sorry but forwarding an email does not violate COE. My point is that TD1 is not even sure if this was unethical and no one here can make an intelligent opinion without first knowing the wording of the message. I stand by my comment that if it was in reference to terrorists that are Islamic Fanatics then they are not a protected class. So tell us Neal how would this be used against this agent in his professional capacity? Even if it only seems to be refering to a religious I would advoid email it around the office. You never know were an email will end up and it could be used against you.

when you get down to basics, as a person why would you want to lump any group of people together, and spread that bias? And Paul, you seemed to assume it was anti terrorist without any facts either... Unless that e mail previously discussed had some link to an actual article, posting e mails without anything backing up the facts is a scary proposition...theres so much made up stuff floating out there as it is. Have a great day, Paul

Paul, Better go back an read the original post. That was were terrorism was mentioned so I did in fact not assume anything. when you get down to basics, as a person why would you want to lump any group of people together, and spread that bias? If you are closer to the other Realtor, I would ask them about it, and suggest to them that it is perhaps inappropriate to label an entire class of people or bring racial comments to the workplace. If not, bring it up with your broker and ask them to do something about it. It is not appropriate to bring racial biases or prejudices to a professional business, and the business owner should be informed of the unprofessional conduct of its workers if this type of behavior continues. Salespeople represent their companies in public and if they are sending out inappropriate comments it could reflect badly on the company (not to mention the fact that it is offensive, unproductive cultural violence). But as Paul points out, it is difficult to say what you should do without the wording and what was actually sent out. But if it offended you, it probably offended someone else as well.

This is interesting; but it is 14 Months Old and the O.P. hasn't been active in all that time. Perhaps the issue has been resolved.

Well, because we deal in all aspects of the Human Condition, some Real Estate Topics are just plain "Timeless".
This issue could have arisen last week; or in 2001; or may come back again for someone next year.
Your thoughts are still appreciated!

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
