I'm 18 posting out of Phoenix, AZ and looking to become a real estate agent. I live with my Mother with very little expenses. I ordered a couple books to look at to see what it's about before I jump in, but I think it might be something that I want to do. I just had some questions.

I worked in retail for about a year and now in a call center for a year and a half, so i'm used to talking, selling, and look mature and professional. But is it hard to find a broker when you're young?

If I am always willing to learn more and completely commit myself to this, will I have a good chance of being successful or is it like gambling?

I'm looking to do this now, because if I decide it's not something I want to do in a couple years I will still be very young and can switch to a different career without much loss.

I got into the business when I was 21.

My age was the biggest obstacle for my business for quite a few years.

Even if you have been in the business for 5 years by the time you are 23, when people interview prospective agents and you go against a 60 year old person that retired from XYZ Corp, and has been in real estate for 3 months - they will automatically think you are inexperienced, and the older person knows what he's doing.

To break into the business, I'd recommend either bird dogging for another agent, or becoming a licensed assistant to help get things off the ground.

With the market taking a dive the next 2 years at least especially in Arizona which had rapid inflation now would NOT be the best tiem to do regular real estate sales.

Sellers still have the midset of 6 months to a year ago.

If you have some money saved up now would be a great time to keep your job but invest in real estate until your portfolio get's big enough to where you can self-sustain and invest full time.

I personally get much more enjoyment out of investing.Ask yourself WHAT part of real estate you like. It's not about the money, you have to have a passion for it.If it's not fun and a burden you won't be in it long.

Not slamming on Exit Realty - but theres 1 reason I wouldn't join them:

Every single client I've had that saw one of their signs found the name uncomfortable - as if Exit Realty meant to "off yourself" or commit suicide.

Ribbles,

I got my license at 20. It was definatly tough!!!

Here is the best advice you will ever get when looking for a job:

"Find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life"

If you don't love people, houses, construction, marketing and sales then dont get into real estate
