Tim Ferris never says that if you want to work 4 hours a week, you should be a real estate agent. His advice is to find a "job" that you OWN and that other people manage, or a business that doesn't take much management. He does offer some good ideas.
Whether or not four hours a week is realistic depends on the person. His point is that by choosing to work smarter (which probably means a career change for most of us), you can drastically improve the quality of your life NOW, not 40 years from now.

JA: I'm curious, does he give examples of this kind of job/business?

Yes. Mostly internet businesses with low customer service requirements.
I finished the book last night and while it's not the most important book I've ever read, I will take a lot of it with me, which is more than I can say for most books I read.
Actually, the book doesn't talk much about working only 4 hours a week - the point seems to be that you can have a wonderful life, living wherever you want (that month) and get out of the rat race.
One paragraph really caught my attention...
'I recently had lunch with a good friend. He will soon graduate from a top business school and return to investment banking. He hates coming from at midnight but explained to me that, if he works 80-hour weeks for nine years, he could make a cool $3-10 million per year. '
'Dude, what on earth would you do with $3 - 10 million per year?" I asked'
'His answer? "I would take a long trip to Thailand."
The point is that you don't need $3-10 million to do what you want to do, probably. That struck me...
I'm 40 years old and in the best health and shape of my life. I wanna enjoy it now, which doesn't mean being lazy and sipping Pina Colados. It does mean not being a stressball everyday because I'm so dependent on other people to reach my goals...
Okay... too much for a Friday morning.
I'm on vacation!

It does take some hard work, and some long hours to get to that point. But, if all you ever do is work, then you will never make it. You will get burnt out long before you get there. I think balance is the key. You have to have leisure time in order to rejuvenate and refresh yourself, which helps you to work smarter. I don't care if you love your job, chances are you don't love ANYTHING enough to do it 80+ hours per week! At least I don't! But in order to be truly wealthy, you have to have leverage. Unless you are a professional athlete, you will never make millions unless you have people working for you and making you money, or income producing assets.

I agree with you Hunt, but that is not what this book is about. This book is marketed as the back door to get there, without much effort. I haven't read the book by I have read all about the fuzz and their sales speech and that is how is being marketed.

I'll tell ya how to get rich. Write a book on how to get rich without doing any work! Make one 30-minute infomercial to sell it, and viola! You're a millionaire!
All these people selling books and tapes and programs like this make their money from selling their programs, not by doing what they say to do in the program.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
