One week before closing and my agent isn't responding to my emails or messages. He does not want me to contact the listing agent with any questions as I still have many before closing. There are several repairs that are suppose to be done, and an agreement to take preposession two days before closing. He has the walk through scheduled the day prior to closing. I cannot seem to get in touch with my agent. He made a comment to my partner that he is pretty much out of the picture now, that it is between me and my lender as his work is done now.....I am not aware of an agent cutting himself loose before the sale goes through...is this common?
And if not what should my next step be. ANy suggestions would be appreciated.

Contact the agent's broker immediately.

I would call the principal broker.Do not YELL at the broker you will just come across as a discruntled client/customer.If you want to get the most out of the situation remain calm, that's when the best communication and problem solving happens to fix your situation.

Explain to the head broker your agent is not returning your calls and says they are not involved in the purchase of your home anymore.

NOTHING more could be further than the truth,it sounds like you have maybe a good but misinformed (new) agent or one that is subpar and doesn't care and treats you like a paycheck only.

Ultimately it's the principal brokers that are responsible for there agents in a transaction.

Your agent should have has a plan before ever going out on the process of buying a home, what it entails, and the frequency and how the agent and buyer were to communicate back and forth through the transaction.

NOT KNOWING and NOT having a plan makes buyers and sellers nervous.

good luck,no legal advice

Contact your agents broker and calmly explain the situation and ask that he/she make sure that your agent get in touch with you, or that the broker take over the situation if the agent does not get in touch with you.

CYA, put it in writing send it to the broker and cc the agent.

Go to the recorder's office and punch in the agent's name, his or her address, (if they own a home) should show up.

If all else fails, contact the listing agent.

Put it in writing? Hardly necessary as this can be resovled with a simple conversation with the broker who will have the agent call the client or if the agent is out of town will either assist the client personally or have whatever agent is covering the agents business handle the situation.

Go to the recorders office and look up the agents address??? It is because of people like you that make Land Trusts such a good idea!

You are correct that a simple call to the listing agent will likely generate a call to the buyers agent and then a call from the agent to the client but this should be the last resort.

Sorry you don't agree with my opinions Paul. We always get complaints like these and the first thing we ask the complainant/victim is.."did you put in writing?" Yeah and if they go to court, they ask is "did you put in writing?"

"People like me" yes people like me working in law enforcement encourage victims and/or the public to use public resources like the recorders office to get public information.

I have been documenting things as he only reponds to me via email and will not call me. I don't feel it is necessary to find out where he lives either. I will handle this appropriately and professionally.

Keep in mind that if the agent is behaving in this manner, his broker may already be aware of it and may have advised him to do so.

I would cruise over to his office and look for his car in the parking lot, then demand to talk to him or his broker, if his car is there. Don't forget, as you are the client, he and his broker are working for YOU. I would NOT tolerate that kind of behavior. He has a definite legal duty to put YOUR interests above his AT ALL TIMES.

You should politely and professionaly contact your agents Broker and explain your situation. More likely than not, the Broker will make sure that your transaction closes without issue.

If that does not solve the problem, and you are concerned that repairs or other agreements in the contract have not been addressed, you should seek legal council prior to closing.
