Ok the place I just bought has this capability.

Does anyone else have FIOS via Verizon? Experiences? It seems as if they are really promoting it right now, it will actually come out cheaper than my current DSL.

Evidently takes 4-6 hrs to install?

To my complete shock & awe, Verizon has performed flawlessly this time. (Law of averages perhaps). The installer was actually early, pleasant & efficient.

Or I'm in some parallel universe.

The tile installers are the New Verizon but that's another story.

The FIOS is actually $30/mo cheaper than my regular DSL was & the install was $19 during this promo period.

Interesting Verizon is claiming it increases the home's value by 1% once it's fiber enabled. Wonder where they got that stat?

FIOS has the highest customer satisfaction of ANY broadband, and it absolutely rocks. I moved to my current home to get new Cable Modem service 10 years ago, and would give my left testicle for FIOS.

I worked for Verizon 14 years, and their customer service has deteriorated back to pre-divestiture level. Nonetheless, FIOS is simple, stable and FASSST !!!!

I wouldn't want you to go to the extreme you mentioned but I appreciate your input.

I really dunno much about the whole hi fiber net thing but when I moved Verizon said it was available & cheaper than the DSL I had so what the hey?

And yes the service was exceptionally good on the order & install.

Now if I ever figure out which box the movers put my laptop in I can try to figure out if I'm wireless . . .

Verizon has already made the ENORMOUS investment in stringing the Fiber to your curb. The last few feet is nothing. DSL is dependent on making copper do unnatural acts, and the farther you reside from the Central Office, the worse your signal.

Fiber suffers no such degradation, and any limitations on the speed of light that you have are created by Verizon. If Cable folks move in with faster technology, Verizon can just turn up your dial ....

Usually they give you a wireless router, but if they didn't you can get them for about 25 bucks..

Depending on your house, and construction, you might want to look at a Pre-N ......
