I took the old one, and it was pretty easy. Talked to someone who took it a couple of months back and she said it was relatively easy.
GREC tells you up to four weeks, but I got my complete package back in about 7 days. Before they let you apply for a broker #, you have to have your trade name registered with the Sec. of state (which will be a total fiasco- those folks down there share a community brain).
The term, "Realtors" is a part of my company name and since it is registered, I had to produce documentation that I was authorized to use it. So, I faxed them a copy of my NAR, GAR and Atlanta Board card. A couple of days later, I got a congratulatory email from the sec of state's office that said, "Your firm's name has been approved. You are now registered with the sec. of state as "The National Association of Realtors, LLC". So, we had to get the attorney to call down there and straighten everything out. It took an additional week.
My point is, do your due diligence with Sec of state. They are incompetent. GREC is much easier to deal with, to my surprise.
E&O minimum coverage costs about $600/yr.
