cross-posted in Aspiring Agents
My wife and I are going to relocate from Charlotte, NC to Asheville later this summer. In anticipation of this move, I received my RE license earlier this spring.
I am interested in commercial real estate as a possible mid-career change. For the past decade, I've been working as a senior manager for a firm that brokers the sale of rail cars to transit authorities, as well as working as agent and sales support for rail-transit manufacturers. I believe that many of the skills I've developed could be applicable to commercial realty.
I've been doing some research (local newspapers and business journals) and I've located an impressive commercial real estate firm that I am going to send my resume and cover letter to in Asheville.
I would appreciate any and all advice about working in commercial real estate. Should I be considering going residential for a long while first? Is my inexperience a fatal handicap, or have others transitioned successfully from other careers?
Thanks in advance,
Vaughn
