Hello to all:
My name is Amalia, I reside in Houston. I really want to get into this real estate industry, but there is one thing that is getting in my way...thats passing the exam! I took my exam 4 times (I know thats bad) and failed it. I passed the state but its the national that is giving me a hard time. I have studyed over and over, read word for word many many times and then I get so confident that I will pass and then dont. Keller Williams is already waiting on me...pls, is there any advice or tips someone can give me? I would highly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance!
Amalia

Study everything until you know it word for word. In Alberta, you have to take a course and pass an exam just to get into the 2 month Real Estate Agents Program, then you only get 2 shots at the test, if you fail both you gotta start from scratch. I failed my first time, I got 66%, 4 percent shy, but I studied for like 2 weeks non stop until I knew everything cause I wasn't about to fork out another $3000 and do everything again.

I wouldnt want to pay again either. Thank you for your advice, I will keep studying word for word...I think another thing that is distracting me is my 3 little ones...its hard to study word for word when you hear "MOM", "I'M TELLIN MOM", "MOMMY IM BORED"...Ugh! Thanks again. I wont give up! I put to much money into this Amalia

Amelia, I think you are doing the same thing I did--overthinking the questions. I almost ran out of time when I took the test. The test questions are designed to be simple, and by that I don't mean easy...I just mean they are not trick questions. Just based on the information in the question, pick the best answer available even if it is not the truth 100% of the time.
Let me just assure you that by going over and over and over the information, your chances of remembering it after you finally pass the test are much greater than for the person who passes it the first time. You don't realize it now, because you want to pass and start earning money, but even though Texas requires a lot more courses than most states, people still don't come out of the testing room prepared to be a real estate salesperson. Our foundation is just not strong enough. That's why we have to work under brokers. In your case, you will have the advantage of actually "learning" the information because you have been over it so much. So you are not at a disadvantage by going through this now. You are actually going to be in a better spot...it will make it much easier to learn what's in front of you after you get your license. Yikes, at least we don't live in Alberta...ouch.
Don't hesitate to PM me if you have any questions. BTW, what part of Houston are you in...we may be neighbors...I'm in SE Harris County.
Darlene

I agree. Wish I had gone that route. It would have made my life a lot easier. Those people are very good at their job.

One of the people there was telling me about someone they knew. They had taken the class online and failed the test 3 times. They then went and took it in person and passed the test right after. Amalia, do you have any practice tests? Studying the material/questions I had missed on it helped me a ton.

I'm thinking that Amalia has her hands full right now, and she will be a licensed real estate agent very soon. Amelia has her mind set and probably will not get distracted from her career goal until she passes, especially since she has worked so hard...even with the kiddos keeping her on her toes. Amelia, my favorite line was "I'm telling Mom." Loved that one.
Anthony, we have an investing forum you might want to check out, also. Since you are new to the forum, you might want to give a look-see at the rules and get that behind you...just part of joining any forum. Go to the list across the top of the page and click on Forums, then scan down to find Investing. The guys there will be glad to chat investing with you, too. They love it.

I am so determined to pass that exam. every time I failed, I start to thinking negative, but I look at my family and just think twice about giving up. I put so much time, money and thought into this...studying. Hopefully my wish will come true soon - and pass.

Did you sign up for the prep exam classes? I did not go for those, but I heard from those who did, did help alot in helping them pass the exam. Yes I attend the prep classes. It was in fact a very good class. But In my situation, I guess I have to keep on studying the materials.

When I took the prep course, I also purchased a CD after I took the prep which consists of "test prep exam questions" Not only that, I also purchased a book called Texas Real Estate Sales Exam and read thur it, the book came with another exam prep question disk so I've studied every thing I can thing of.

Amalia will probably continue to persue her license and not be swayed by negative comments. Nor will the many women across the country who bring goods and services to our retail stores by driving trucks, which also is a very good paying job in case anyone wants to check. Truck driving begins paying financial rewards immediately and offers benefits, while real estate takes a little longer to kick in and requires licensees to provide their own benefits from their profits (which should be more than enough to cover a benefit program for the self-employed). My local community college offers real estate and other Associate Degrees, plus truck driving and other certifications.
Amalia has joined lots of agents struggling to get their licenses. It's not how hard the license is to obtain--it's what happens that first year or two that matters. Amalia is dealing with a big work load now with her kids still being at home. She could wait till they are older, but why? She will have a job that allows her to work around their schedules (school, after school activities, and whatever) and be making great contacts with the other mom's, school teachers, teacher's aides, bus drivers, crossing guards...all people who need housing. Smart move, Amalia. Your kiddos will be your best marketing tool, and you don't even have to pay them--okay, that's probably not really accurate, but you get the idea.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
