My husband and I are buying a house. We are a few days away from closing. We had asked a family member of his to refer us to a real estate agent. They did and all was going well. Until yesterday when the referring agent (family member) called our real estate agent and asked for our HUD documents. We have already signed all the paperwork, so this is confusing as best. What is the ethics of referring agents asking for documents from the real estate agent? What recourse do we have?

I keep on top of referrals I make, as I get a referral fee for referring out business. I want to make sure the the clients I have and refer out are taken care of. The family member may be extra cautious and looking out for your needs. Sometimes HUDs are inaccurate and need adjusted. Are you suggesting the family member is being Nosey?

If so, tell your agent not to release the HUD statement. Your agent is working for you. Your agent will then relay the infor to your family member.

Good luck with closing and Enjoy your new home !!!!

Maybe the referring agent(your family member) is just making sure he gets the full referral fee he is entitled to. The HUD wil show the sales price and the commission your agent is getting.

What is your specific objection to sending the referring agent the HUD? There is no confidential information on that HUD that is not available somewhere else except possibly your SSN and you can just black that out.

The referring agent is more than likely just guaranteeing that they get the alloted comission.

Like someone said, just black out your SSN it's no big deal.
