One year and four Realtors later sellers seeks answers!
I have a person who continues to wander into our office looking for advice on selling his home!
I`ve known this man for 18months. His attempts to sell his $679,000 home has been futile! Numerous times we`ve told him "You get what you pay for"...That means you don`t hire your ex-girlfriend who just got her Real Estate license, the school teacher who moonlights as a Realtor when convenient or a pastor who thinks our job isn`t that difficult as it appears! I kid you not these were the people who were selling this man`s home.
I believe it`s time that NAR makes us disclose to the public that either we`re Full Time or Part Time Realtors to the general public. Most sellers would appreciate knowing who`s selling their home!
This job entails working 6.5 days a week ,16 hours a day.
We take pride in telling a client to look for our ads in magazines, net, flyer's, open houses, and virtual tours. We are Realtors who are available to answer questions, show properties and make sure that you`re home is sold!
That being said, the person walked into our office today, actually told me that his friend the "pastor" had his home sold, but the deal collapsed. The closing was set for April 17th,yet his agent never notified him of why it wasn`t closing.
Today, his friend finally admits that the deal is dead! Holy mackerel! It`s almost June and this poor guy is thinking his home was sold! The seller finally has hit bottom and I guess after watching home sales nose dive decides to place his home with someone with a proven track record!
I just completed the listing agreement, after careful due diligence we agree together to list the home for $630,000.. One year and four Realtors later, he finally agreed to use a professional!

Part time. But I dont work everyday and i'm reacheable even at my full time job. Having to disclose such a thing would be unfair to the decent part-timers. There are just as many "full time" agents that actually still do "part time" work. Frankly I'm getting kinda p.o.'d at people wanting to lump agents into categories to gain an advertising advantage.Whats next, race? I know a parttime agent that did three sales here and there and one of them was a 650,000 house. I know a full time agent that hasnt sold a home yet.

If anyone has to work that much, they are in the WRONG business. Or they are very slow at what they do. I would have to make tons of money to work that much, and not have time to enjoy my life. That is completely ridiculous. I dont care if it is a career in real estate or a dog walker. If I ever have to work that much in real estate, I better be making so much money that I wouldn't know what to do with it. Which I dont see happening.

I'll pull 8-12 hour days 6-7 days a week (except today I was a bum) but 16 hrs is too much for me. When I pull 12 hour days I usually go into the office between 6 and 7.

Yep, I know a few part timers that are more dedicated and do more work than full timers.

It might be more meaningful to ask how long they have been in the business than how much time they currently spend at it. If you have "staying power" it will speak to your success; many of the new agents wash out in 6 months to 2 years. The expense side of the ledger makes it a bit "pricey" as a hoppy!

What are you doing 16 hours per day. Can you give us a hypothetical blow-by-blow?

"This job entails working 6.5 days a week ,16 hours a day."
I work about 2 hours a day, four days a week -- on average -- and I consider myself to be a full-time agent.

And are you married, or divorced? Or single? If you are single, you should plan on staying that way, unless all you want in a compantion is a roommate.
(not Ashley, but the OP) I know a mortgage guy who bragged that he was available 24/7 and would take calls even during his dinner hour. He is now divorced. I knew you didn't mean me Perky.

In all seriousness, if a person wants to view a listing of yours on a Tuesday morning after seeing your sign, what do you do?
Same thing I would do if I have an appointment with another client, a closing to go to, or I am on vacation. I have my back-up cover me or the floor person will be more than happy to show it. I am a full time agent (whatever the heck that really means) that does not = being available for everyone that calls me. I am only one person after all. In spite of the new math I have been using lately.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
