Should be fine for your real estate business. Heck, my computer is 6 years old.

It really depends on what your trying to do. If you just want to surf the web and manage e-mails, it should be fine. If your planning on photoshopping, doing photo manipulation or anything that requires processing information, your going to have to upgrade. So it all depends on your needs.

I do BPO's, lots of inputting info, using Mozilla mostly , which seems awfully slow...what do you reccomend (sp) I get? more RAM?

Have you scanned your system for spyware or viruses? I should think your ram is sufficient. Spyware / viruses on the computer can really slow it down. Also certain programs you run on the puter can slow it down too - Norton products are notorious for being resource hogs. (as well as being over priced)

where do use usually your pc? it depends on where do you use your pc.. me i use only amd duron although i had a p4 for video editing and for designing a website.

I assume you mean your machine is a 1.2ghz and has 512mb ram, that perhaps the system is reporting back 480mb. I also assume you are running Windows XP since your machine is a year old. What programs do you routinely use on your machine? Do you run Microsoft Office? Depending on your operating system and number/type of programs you generally run concurrently, your system may work fine or may be too slow.

I sell computers (servers actually.) We have a saying. "Anything that works is obsolete !"

Anyway, as a hobby I refurbish old PCs and sell them at cost or give them to impoverished jazz musicians. I always buy CORPORATE desktops (at computer shows or from eBay.)

An off-lease corporate-type desktop won't have all the bells and whistles of the latest shelf-candy at Best Buy, but it will run trouble-free for years longer than consumer-grade models.

1.2GHz and 512MB will be fine for most XP apps. Eventually, you'll need to migrate to Vista (Microsoft will ensure that) and that might be a time to upgrade 1-1.5 years from now.

How fast your computer should be depends on what you are doing on them, in your case if you are just checking emails, a few websites, and so on yes its fine atleast for another year/year 1/2. If you use programs such as photoshop and video editors (lets say you do your own virtual tours) you may need a faster PC. I have 2 gigs of ram. That seems to do me just right A bit much for just online work though. I'd say 1 gig to be safe.

There have been many breakthroughs in the last year. Particularly dual core processors. Also of note are much faster bus speeds and memory speeds. Additionally the hard drives today are usually 7200 rpm or faster.

I recommend the fastest Intel Core Duo you can afford equipped with 2Gb ram AT LEAST. HDD should be around 300-500Gb.

You can nurse that ol' system for a bit longer. Considering that speeds will increase and prices will fall perhaps you should, but with the advent of Verizon's new FIOS the web is about to get really really fast.

Of course this will only matter to you if you have the horsepower to keep up.

One item you did not mention is; how much space do you have left on your harddrive. IF you get down to under 10% Windows starts to slow down. If you get under 1G it really starts to slow down.

Also, memory is very cheap. I would up yours to 1G.

That should suffice. If you're doing large amounts of work in photo shop and other RAM requiring applications, up your RAM. It's cheap. Like everyone else has said, it just depends. Hard drive space is crucial. If you have less than 40 gig, consider purchasing an external hard drive and move your files over to it. It'll speed things up a bit and also give you the convenience of traveling with all your data.

as cheap as new pcs are, dont waste money upgrading. The older ram gets more expensive, not less. Apply the upgrade $$ to a new purchase and your almost there.
