I would recommend they interview with a handful or more of brokers in the local area. Also have your kid(s) talk with agents that work for those brokers. It really depends what they are looking for - training, compensation, etc.

I advise them to start a marketing company so they don't have any regulatory obligations or marketing restrictions. Keep it simple make money let the REaltors do it professionally with their high obligations.

I would suggest, as the first reply, that they interview around.

Every office in every city is different. Much like any other job, one should explore a variety of different options, if only to get a different perspective as to how the industry and different companies within that industry work.

When just staring, interviewing around can definitely help new agents discover what they may want from their employers, and what is more important to them.

Interviewing the potential Brokers on such items as training, commission splits, costs (expenses), market share, advertising they provide the agents, brokers physiologic outlook, time in business, sales stats for the office, current listings and marketing of the company and agents are some good questions to add to the interview.

I like Sheldon answer. I have not been on this forum for a year and it is nice to see some things never change. I can not remember the name of the co in Edmonton you where writing about was it com free or something like that. They must still be in the gun sights.

Actually I don't think RE will be the same by the time I grow up let alone my kids so I don't I would want them to be agents.

There are many brokerages that offer pretty good support systems and training to new agents, and even training for pre-licensed individuals. My company does, and I have heard of a few others as well.
Realtors usually pay desk fees or do a commission split with the brokerages so it is advisable to check out several different ones to find out what packages they are willing to provide and go with the one that has the best package. There are a lot of fees involved that add up, and you usually don't get paid until your deal closes (several months after the initial work). For this reason your kid should save up some money to support themselves while they launch their career.
Zmehappy suggested some good things to ask the brokerage. What are the overall costs, what training/support will you receive, what marketing capabilities does the company have, is it a widely recognized company, what hours are they open?
There is no set answer to your question, as this can be very dependent on the individual operations of your branch manager and administrative staff. Something I looked for was that when I called the company- the phone was answered quickly and politely. First impressions are very important and if your client's first impression of your office is rudeness or unavailability it is not a good thing.

I would tell them to go work with their Mother in the Finance/Investing business first! LOL
They would have to toughen up and get some thick skin. It is a very rewarding career but can also be a pain!
