I'd like to get my license and begin work as an agent working on a team under another agent. I believe this is the best way to gain experience and learn under a successful agent.
Would anybody explain the different types positions that are available? I've seen a licensed asst. which seems to be more like a personal asst. and a buyers agent.
Would a newbie be picked up by a team or do they prefer to choose someone who has been on their own for a while?
Any comments/suggestions?
I live in Winnipeg and appreciate your input.

In Winnipeg there are some very successful agents that began as assistants. Some Realtors would rather have new agents for assistants as they can be trained to work with the team's system which is sometimes harder if hiring a long-time agent as an assistant.

Thanks for your reply Doug. What is the best way to find a position? Email all brokers? Individual teams? How long would it take to find a team that I could work with? I've spoked to several brokers and it seems they will take almost anybody to work at their office as an individual but when I bring up the idea of starting on a team, they all have said it's a poor idea.

It would be an individual agent that would be hiring you for their team - not the broker. The broker does not hire you and place you with a team so you need to find an agent to work for first. Then that agent would have the broker sponsor you for the course.

If you are just talking to brokers - some may say it is a bad idea because they may make more money if you are not an assistant - and it is not their job to try and place you with a team.

In the past I have seen agents advertise in the newspaper for new team members but you may find it more productive to just contact individual agents who already have a team.
