I've just graduated with a B.S. of Accounting. I've been a real estate agent since I was 19 (sophmore year of college), but I don't have any experience. I plan on passing the Calfifornia Broker Exam in Fall 06' using Education in lieu of experience. Below are my questions.

1. My Father, a real estate broker, claims that the exam is difficult. There is not really an exam that I can not pass (passed the sales person exam in downtown LA on the first chance, studied overnight). Is it really that difficult? How about in comparison to the the Salesperson exam?

2. When I do become a California Real Estate Broker, what route should I take? Should I start my own office? Should I work for someone else?

I want to make some money in the folowing year while I study for the GMAT for entrance into a graduate tax program in 07'. Your help is appreciated.

I'm kind of wondering why you want your own broker's license if you don't plan on opening your own shop.

However, I have no problem passing tests, and I thought the broker exam was pretty tough.

You may have an easier time then I did because I was years out of college and out of practice for studying.

There's plenty of software programs that allow you to do multiple choice questions and study at your own pace.

If you get one of those and put in an hour a day between now and the test, it will be the easiest thing you've ever done.

Hope that helps

I just passed the broker's exam in California. I used lumbleau.com to study and if I had made it through all of the study materials I would have been very well prepared, I did make it through about 3/4 of the materials and did pass the exam on the first try. If you have your sales license and are not planning on doing this long term, why are you looking to get the broker's license? It will take several months to process the application, sit for the exam, etc. With your time frame, you might be better off working on a business plan and finding ways to bring business in right now.

I am a new agent and I did go directly for the broker's license because I am planning long term and did not want to study for a new exam take more classes, etc. at a later date. I am also an appraiser and I found it difficult to find the time to upgrade that license while working full time.
