I'm not in the industry and have a great career in an area other than Real Estate.
My question to the forum is: Should I let my license hand on my wall for a conversation piece or is there something you would utilize it for (if you were in the same predicament)?
Thanks in advance.

Well if you have a great career in another field But you still got your brokers license that's great you built your resume even more. Yes you can hang it on your wall so you look cool lol but you could also use it. Maybe invest in some real estate and you do the transactions yourself so you don't have to pay for the agent, or broker. Just keep it for your own investments or moves, and maybe some family and friends. You don't need to make a career out of it if you are happy with yours right now.

You can use it to get referral fees.

I think the referral idea is probably the best way to go.
However, you will want to consult with the usual law types and accountants, but using your brokers license for your own deals is only worth it if your doing that as a pretty big part of your business.
As a licensed broker, your held to a higher standard than the usual guy on the street in real estate transactions. That just gives the advantage to anyone who might want to take you to court regarding a transaction.
Also, as a broker doing your own deals, you are more likely to get classified as a "Dealer" by the IRS. This effects how the proceeds from transactions are taxed. While you can still get tagged as a "Dealer" by the IRS when your not a licensed agent or broker, my understanding is that by being licensed the odds are higher that you will get tagged as such sooner.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
