Hello,
I am a new licensee who has been working for my husband/ at home/ for a couple years... Actually, this is my first real career job since college I have worked retail and a worked as a floral designer b4 moving here to Miami and deciding to get into real estate after my wedding... I was very nervous about getting a job right away and went with the first broker who offered me a high commission split and no desk fees.... But they had me join the realtor assoc b4 even coming into the office, and told me it would be 300$ but then it was 600$ and I gave a cred card number with only 500$ of room oon it so it was declined, how embarrassing, I had to give another and yet I still dont understand why I was told it would only be 300.... But the big thing is this... Over the weekend I went through the entire Sunday RE section of the paper... And they had not one lisitng... Then I went to their website, this is a company that calls themself the most recognized name in RE, btw, and I found out that not one listing on the entire website in my entire area, which is Miami Beach and the surrouding cities, belonged to this particular office.... Offices miles away, which is a big deal in a city/beach town such as south beach, had lstings less than half oa block from where my office is... And guess what.. my office did not have ONE listing, not even on their own companys website... I even checked the area where the broker says his main office is, about 25 miles form here... Nothing listed in that area with my office either.... WHat is going on here?> All the other companies around here have signs and listings galore... It's a high inventory market here and I'm freaked out now.. I took this job and canceled all my other interviews for it, and then I went in for an assistant job with the most high profile realtor on the beach and she loved me then never called me back... Now what do I do? These no listing havers expect me to go into the office thurs and start marketing myself... Do I quit then or find another job first... I hope I haven't alienated anyone by canceling interviews, b/c now I need them! Please please help me and respond..

Becca, I hate to be the one to break this to you but Real Estate is Not a JOB. What you have done is just opened your own business and if you do not have adequate operating capital you are not going to make it past a year. Originally posted by Becca L: Hello,

My husband has a very good job and he is financially backing me... You didn't even answer my question about the franchise. I was so excited when I saw a reply to my post and all that you have to tell me is that it is not a job? Is owning your own business not a job? Do you think that it helped to tell me that I used the wrong word in your opinion? I read all these RE books and they say RE is the hardest job you'll ever have... Are they wrong too? All I was asking is, do I have a chance if I'm backed by a broker whose company has no listings....

I answered you question in your Other post. Yes referring to Real Estate Sales as a JOB is incorrect. A job is something you do and get a paycheck each week or two. From week to week you know what you will be making. Thinking of this as a job will get you into trouble. Well it is a good thing your husband can financially back you till you see a commission check because it could be 6 months if you do everything right. You by your own words said you were so anxious that you took the first offer without interviewing other brokers and researching their market share. You are going to need training cause your license class does nothing to teach you how to market yourself and market properties. What training does your new broker offer? Other than a larger split what are you getting from the broker? Originally posted by Becca L: My husband has a very good job and he is financially backing me... This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
