Hi,
I'm trying to acquire my real estate license for the state of Georgia. I've already taken the exam twice, and failed both times.
So I am here asking those that passed for advice on how and what to study to help me pass this exam. Is there a certain method that helped you, or what specific kinds of materials (books, videos, etc) did you use?

I really want to pass this test this time, even if I have to pay someone to take the test for me, I will be more than happy to pay, to get that licence.
I have to drive at least 2 hours to take the test. I am a very busy person, so I need as much advice as I can get to help me pass this time.

My advice is when you take the test use every single minute until the test is over. I say use every minute because there will be questions you cannot anwser, memorize the ones you dont know and after the test go back to your book and find the anwser because you will see it as a repeat on the next test.

I used flash cards and made sure to be familiar with the terminology. I also studied from the AMP Practice test software which helped a great deal. I studied until my brain couldn't handle any more information and then I took the test.

The flash cards will be helpful because you can take them with you anywhere. You can sit in a waiting room and flip through flash cards, you can sit in traffic and flip through flash cards, you name it...

good luck!

I used the Nevada Exam Prep book to study for my exam. They make a prep book for every state I think. Buy it and use that because many of the questions in the book are in the exam. Some are exact!

GAMLS (www.gamls.com) has a two day cram course that is very good. I think it is about $95. Schedule it as close to your exam date as you can.

You also say you are in Atlanta, but are 2 hrs from an AMP location. Whereabouts are you? There is one in Marietta on 120, Gwinnett, and Fayetteville (I think).

I passed the first time but have always been good at tests.

The best thing i can tell you is too read through the amp book or purchase it at barnes and noble bookstore. The amp book has alot of national questions not covered in the pre-liscense class.

When studying don't get bogged down reading to much on one subject. It's better to know a little of everything and get a majority of the questions right to achieve a passing grade.

What i do is if i don't know the answer to something i pass on it.Often answering questions later on will eliminate a choice.Example say on question 5 i have narrowed 4 answers to 2 possible but still do not know the answer.By passing on it now the answer might come to me later or i might read something in a question later on that will help me eliminate an answer.

I always focus on key terms.Instead of trying to remember the whole definition focus on key terms then the answer will pop into your mind.

When you failed they should have given you a results page saying your score on the national and state section, this will tell you what to work on.

I don't know how it is in other states but testing in ga is very serious business. You cannot bring anything into the room period. They give you a pencil and a calculator. You have a webcam on top of the computer watching you and a person in a glass window.

All the tests are different with different questions and answers. They do not use the same test each time.If 30 people are in 30 cubicles taking the test at the same time each one is different.

good luck

This is wrong. Not only from a moral standpoint (God knows we need more morality in this industry), but from a legal standpoint. You put yourself and your broker in harm's way if you do this. If you don't pass the test again and you don't want to go through the legal avenues to take it again, maybe this industry isn't right for you.

I've known agents who have had a terrible time taking the test, but they stuck with it and turned out to be great agents.

There are no short cuts.

Like I said on the duplicate post I passed the AMP exam the first time with a score of 88..

Things I did when testing...

I had a nice subway sandwich and cookie before the exam (you'll need the sugar for stamina).

As soon as I sat down at my testing station I took a few very deep but very silent breaths to calm my nerves. I took longer than usual to do the practice session so that I can calm my nerves. I took a look around the room to familiarize myself with the surroundings.

I wrote down my formulas as soon as I got my scratch sheet.

To be honest I had to skip at least 20 questions the first pass. I would put my first thought down (your first answer is usually the best). Sometimes another question on down the line will reveal the right an answer for a past question.

I would write down the question # so my scratch sheet looked like this

*4. c
13. d / a
17. ...
45. a

An asterick means I think this is the right answer but i need time to think about it.

In the middle of the exam take a 10 second break, push back from the computer take a few breaths..look around the room and then get focused again.

As the test ended and I thought I was running out of time I used this method of recording the test number on the scratch sheet for the difficult questions or the more involved scenario questions that couldn't be answered in 3 seconds & some of the math questions.

I went back at the end of the exam and finished the math questions and the difficult ones I couldn't answer.

I double checked all of my answers..being sure to ask myself whether the first answer that came to mind for myself was the best one.

Hope this helps!!!

Oh yeah, use math to your advantage.

I watched very closely how many questions they gave me total (which isn't always the same due to the new questions AMP throws in).

So of course you now know the half way mark. I stayed focused on the halfway mark and how my scratch sheet was shaping up. I KNEW there were some answers that I just couldn't narrow down the answer to or that I really DIDN'T KNOW.
So I might put 2 or 3 asteriks next to that test question on the scratch sheet. If you have more than 40-50 questions like that then you know you're in trouble.

You are getting some of the best advice FOR FREE here.

There is no need to pay anyone to take the test for you!

Did you physically go to school or did you take the course online/CPU?

That answer may lead to some insight on how well you will do. Here's why I say that. My wife and I both took the course I took it on CPU and she went to class. IMHO the CPU conditioned and simulated test taking scenerios on a constant basis so when I went to take the test I was so used to using the CPU that it was no problem! On the other hand I looked at all the Tests/Exercises/Reading my wife went through to get through the class and was extremely happy that I took it on CPU.

I took the Cram Course (Boy did it help)and purchased numerous study guides to be exposed to various formats of questions and concepts.

All that being said we both passed on our first tries!

It is really up to what type of learner you are.

In a nutshell:
1. Enroll in the Cram course!
2. Study the Georgia Law Section back and forth!
3. Answer ques. you are confident about on your first pass then count those correct answers with a eye on the passing mark go through again and answer the ones that you have gained confidence on the answer on the second pass. Add those questions to your correct score. Then focus on math add those to the correct total. Finally go back and look at the ones you have no idea about and guess! After breaking the test down in those sections you will know as you sit there if you passed or failed as well as prepared yourself to take it again if need be.
