Take as much training as possible. Go to any extended training classes your company offers and even more.

Like I said before, Prudential is a great company to work for too. I might also seem bias because I work for Prudential but I worked for another top company before Prudential and I can honestly say that Prudential is much better. Let me know if you might be interested.

See I don't gain anything from another agent starting with Prudential. I just tell people that I am around to answer any questions about my company. But you know what, most companies are franchises and they aren't all the same anyway. So even if you try and recruit someone, it doesn't mean you can give them all the info they need.

Jon, I am new too, couple of months in. The first few weeks in the office for me were training based, and I chose and mapped out my farm area. Got into the system we use to get the addresses. Got some marketing materials to go out to these addresses and mailed some and hand delivered some. I held some open houses for agents in the office and picked up some buyers, and called my SOI for help starting up and asked for business. Everything you read on this forum (most I guess), is true... search for stuff like "business plan", "prospecting", etc. Follow the steps these guys lay out and tweek them to your own style of sales and marketing. Marketing! Make some web sites, free sites like point2agent are easy to use. Get out there with a card and a handshake and ask for business. Good Luck, and have Fun!!!

Advertise yourself as much as possible, send out postcards to everyone you know even people you barely know, free websites at point2agent.com, buy your own domain name for $7 a year from somewhere. Buyfromjon.com is great for you...I have used this company for years they are great. Even got my cmpany to buy a site from them. Free sites you can have up to 10 listings till you buy a bigger site. Great starter site till you start earning the big bucks in Cali. When I was new I had someone design graphics for my van windows only cost $150 and I had advertsing everywhere I went. We like to set up booths at home expos, the fair etc. Sponsor a kids soccer team or some sports team with your name on back of shirts. Ask other agents alot of questions and go with them when you can...This business is a learn as you go business, you never know it all, being new is tough. Hand out alot of business cards, I print mine thru vistaprint.com and hand out alot of pens from pens.com, good luck...

Tarbell gave me a wealth of free marketing and cheap marketing things. Farm, farm, farm, & farm some more be consistent! Keep going to as many educational classes as you can. Not only will its keep you educated it'll keep you motivated as your trying to break into this industry. Realise you are probably going to do a few months fo work with no return but ride it out.
Get postcards out, note pads, pens, a good website, ALWAYS have business cards, put magnets on your car if you want, make sure you let everyone know what your doing right now, ask an agent to borrow an open house if he has alot of listings. Theres no way he can do all of those open houses, so usually its no issue. You just might find a buyer for the property but better yet you may get someone who says "I love it but i want a 3 bedroom not a 4" Thats when you better know the local market so you can be like "I know a perfect 3 bedroom a few blocks from here". Hit it from every angle.
Also work the ever so hard to break For Sale Buy Owners (FSBO's). Ask them if you bring a buyer if they'll compensate. The C.A.R. has a contract for just that. Most the time they get so frustrated anyways they'll list with you. Once you find what works for you, your "niche" so to say... WORK IT! Now go make yourself a career!

I've had my own issues wtih Oakes, but he is correct in protecting unwitting newcomers against your recruiting ambitions.

Originally posted by Keller Williams Agent: It is not my fault KW offers profit sharing, and what makes you think I am doing this for my own benefit, I believe that KW is the best compnay to work for and is fastest growing in North America. So what you are saying is that all real estate companies can recruit except KW, thats wrong. My line of work is simply to state facts about my company but the other companies don't wanr a new agent to know about kw because we have more to offer. Post Oaks is right it seems like i'm recruiting so I am simply going to state facts and go on from there. Saying people who want to work for KW are "victims" of being overpaid. I tell you what...if you are sincere...take your contact information out of there so YOU don't profit personally - Most new agents know if there is a KW agency near them and how to contact them. They don't need you for that. That would prove that you are offering sincere advice and not just trying to turn a quick buck for yourself. Then perhaps people will give you some respect. Right now, you sound like a parot. I looked into KW. It's new to our area. To me their "profit sharing" twist screams "pyramid scheme". Since I would be at the bottom of the pyramid - I ran like hell.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
