My husband and I are taking our classes together and we know he will work FT, not 100% sure about me just yet, but we will market ourselves as a team. We have just relocated to Canyon Lake, Texas. We are about 45-55 miles from San Antonio and Austin respectively. Would we be better served by focusing on an area maybe a little closer to civilization, with more prospects, even though the San Antonio and Austin markets have had record numbers of agents, or focus on our immediate area? Any thoughts, especially related to husband and wife teams, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks~

I will lead like the first congratulate you on your new career decision. I will also tie that I think it might be a bad idea for both of you to jump in full time at the same time, that is unless you have some financial resources that could last two or three years.

Your question regarding whether you should go into the big city or stay in the more rural areas is a good one. I personally would suggest that you work somewhere close to where you live. Keep in mind that by giving your customers good, fast service, you will be serving them better and will be more likely to get referral business, which is the bread-and-butter of most real estate agents after some period of time.

You may also want to check with several of your local Board of realtors, and find out how many realtors there are per capita in each of the markets you are thinking of.

Best of luck with your future endeavor!
