I got my liscense in March 2006 and I have not yet posted it in an office. Will brokers look at me funny for waiting so long to post? I have been procrastinating because I am not sure how much it will cost me and which company to go with.

Call some companies in your area and set up interviews with the managing brokers. I don't think that they will look at you "funny", but they might ask you why you waited so long to go active. As far as how much it will cost, again, those are questions to ask the brokers. MOST, will tell you what the local association fees are going to be and how much they charge (if they do charge) to work under their company name, and so on. Search this forum for "broker questions" and you will find alot of info. Good luck!

No... this will not cause anyone to look at you funny.

I doubt anyone will even ask about it. If they ask just say you were getting your ducks in a row or some other appropriate cliche.

Nerw Jersey must be different, in New York you don't get a license without a sponsoring broker!

Most brokers just want to know that you have a license that isn't expired or under suspension. You might even want to wait longer before you pick a company if you haven't yet formulated a business plan and built up cash reserves to tide you over for 6 months. You can use that time to read posts in this and other real estate forums, and study real estate marketing, prospecting and how to run your real estate business with a disciplined frame of mind.

This may be a little off-topic but I'm going to mention it anyways - for whatever it's worth....

If you want to survive in this business, people looking at you funny is a small matter. I'm a non-confrontational, compliant, never-in-your-face personality, and I've been jumped and trempled on so badly in the past (in 1 transaction: gosh, the salesperson was telling lies about me to his corporate and I could never get him to return my phone calls until I get the Corporate Operations Manager on the phone). Looking funny at me at that point would be nothing!!!

I say Go for it. Explain your reason (if you feel like it). If he thinks that's weird, and you cant build a relationship with your broker, go to the next one!
