I'm a new agent in northwest arkansas I passed my exam little less than a month ago and joined my broker about 1 week after, I have a fairly decent knowledge about residential transactions even though I haven't sold anything yet I already have a few listings, my broker has been very good to me until a couple days ago when I asked her about the commercial side of being a agent she went on to tell me all the negatives about being involved with the commercial side which really surprised me since she had been such postive from the start, I haven't had a chance to talk about this to a commercial firm in my area because im too busy trying to get a house sold and pay the mortgage!! I would like to test the other side of the water and become a commercial agent, I virtually have no real estate experience prior to a month here and would like to know how to go about this should I stick with residential for a while or find a firm willing to train me in-house I would like to hear from you guys any insights are welcome.....

Since you already have some residential listings, stay on that side until you close a few deals. You can use some of your free time to go out and speak with experienced commercial agents to learn if that's something you want to move into. You can also start to take CCIM courses while working residential so that you can hit the ground running later when you want to switch.

I agree with Jerry W. While I too am realtively new (my first year), I've chosen to become an expert in one area first. Oddly enough, my name badge gets me into conversations with those who express interest in buying commercial. My KW office provides free on-going training on commercial transactions for those interested, so it's there when I need it.
