Online Prelicense Courses a Viable Alternative?

I've decided to get my license and found a small independent broker willing to let me work under him, and we both have a good understanding about our expectations of one another.
I'm considering taking the prelicense course (Michigan) online at careerwebschool... has anyone taken a prelicense course online or heard any comments about online courses compared to classroom?
I am a stay-at-home Dad so I can't do a 9-5 class and weekends are difficult for me as well..

I did both the agent and broker's pre-license course on the computer. It worked great for me.

I'm new coming to the real estate field and I did my pre licensing online. If I had to do it over again I would have taken a class. It will take a lot of discipline to stay focus and not to get side tracked with other things. I stop and started for over two year. Granted, when I started I had a small child and pregnant with another. The worse thing for me is that the learning seemed to go on forever. Whenever, something came up in my life the course would take the back burner. It made my studying even more difficult. When I would return to studying again I would have to review what I learned maybe two weeks ago. I spent many late nights working on that pre licensing course. However, if when you complete the course is not an issue, than go for it. The online course does give you the ability to go at your on pace. If you want your experience to be painless as possible and quick, take a class. In class learning creates a schedule for you and provides immediate help with contents of material.

I also took the course online; since I didn't know what was going to be on the exam, I was forced to learn everything thoroughly, which I felt I did.
I took a weekend cram course and found myself raising my hand to answer questions more than anyone else; the instructor asked where I had gone to RE school and when I replied, "I took it online," he laughed and said to the class, who were his classroom students, "you guys are making me look really bad."
I breezed through the school exam and the state exam; in fact, I finished the state exam in 20 minutes with a pretty high score. I do attribute it to having been thoroughly prepared by the online course and I feel as if I know the material very, very well.
At the end of the day, though, it's only a mechanism for getting a license, not a predictor of success. Do whatever works best for you and your schedule! Good luck!

The good thing about attending a class is they will go over & over the stuff you need to know for the exam, at least they did here when I took it. They told us specifically what is emphasized on the test. There is material you will study & there will not be 1 related question on the exam. It can save you from wasting time studying stuff you won't be tested on.
However, you can take it online & take an exam cram course at a local school. They offer that here. The RE schools have a one day or weekend refresher that goes over the really important stuff. I know some online schools offer it as well. If you're disciplined enough then go for it!
Do they offer evening classes? I took a part time evening class from 6-10 because I was working FT.

Im enrolled now in institute online for the Illinois Brokers test. At the moment my state has a good deal that allows people to take the 45 hour sales agent course and go for that license or add the 75 hours onto that for 120 hours and take the broker without the time in service as an agent. from zero to broker. Thats what Im doing since its the only thing that makes sense to me. I was licensed while I was in the military and when I transferred I had to start all over again. Ive had so many real estate schools that when I saw a chance to do the broker all at once I bit.
Funny thing about me is I probably have less than 3 years total experience in real estate sales but......... 45 hour sales Illinois 45 hour sales Maryland full brokers course in Maryland back to Illinois 2 years later and licenced Left for overseas for 15 years!! Now doing sales plus broker and will sit for state exam in August.
Thanks to technology, continuing education requirements online are availalbe. If we had that in 1990 Id be selling instead of studying. Geez, I feel like Billy Madison.

I also took the prelicense online. It worked fine for me, but you do have to be commited to stay with it and get through it. It is easy to say "I'll do it after lunch or after I clean the bathroom". It definately takes longer. Took me about four months because the program I did made you go through each lesson twice to make sure you understood it...vs taking a 3 week in-class format.
I also took a 2 day cram course (it was included in my online program) and that really helped out. I would probably go through the class if I had to do it again, just because you get done a lot faster and you have someone to answer any questions you may have.
BUT either way, no prelicensing helps determine your sucess in real estate, they are just designed to help you pass the exam. Once you do, make sure you have lots of training and broker support if you have never done this before.

Hi all: I just passed my washington real estate course. It was really hard. I actually failed the first time sadly. Then I purchased a membership with a study guide service called the Real estate License professor http://www.licenseprofessor.com they were super helpful. Did any of you try any other study guides and how helpful did you find them?

Are there online pre-license programs for all states? I see a lot of folks talking about them, but I haven't really seen anyone talk about Kentucky. I hadn't considered doing it online, so I haven't done any research. I have been planning on taking a traditional class at the local community college, since I work a full time job, but I took all of my paralegal classes online and LOVED it, so if there is an online program that satisfies KY requirements I would DEFINATELY be interested.

I took the pre course online ( GA ) Everything was online... no books shipped to me or anything. I took the entire course in 3 days.... took the class final at the local tech college the next day or so. I skipped almost all of the reading that I was supposed to do in the E-books. I didn't do anything for about 6 months and then decided to go take the State/Nat test. I did a quick review of the course and headed to Atlanta for the test.
I would not advise anyone to do this unless you are a very good test taker. I passed the test the first time, but I really felt I was wading thru the material. The online course material did not teach me the concepts ( althought the reading might have ) that the actual test questions are based on. The online course was still right for me as I would go crazy sitting in a classroom for 6 to 8 weeks or whatever it is.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
