I took the online course ( GA ) and my wife took the classroom course ( FL ).
I have looked over the materials she has from her class and don't see anything that is more valuable in the materials themselves other than the fact that she has actual books, but I do not.
I passed my exam first time and my wife has failed multiple times. I don't think the actual materials are the issue, its how you learn them.
My online course did not teach me in a way that would prepare me for the exam. ( my opinion ) but I finished th ecourse and was ready for the staqte exam in less than a week... my wife went ot a classroom twice a week for what seemed like forever.

I just completed an online course. I am too hyper to sit in a night class for weeks on end, and my current job doesn't allow me to do the full-time class for two weeks. Online worked best for me. I finished my class in less than a week.
I plan on getting a review book to go over, in order to prep for the test. I guess the proof will be in the passing!!

Find a Real Estate School in your state. Call that school and ask to be put in touch with one of the instructors. Ask them the pros and cons of classroom course vs alternatives. I took a correspondence cource in Kansas and passed the State exam first time out. I relocated to Arizona and because State law requires your training to be "classroom" I had to do it all over again. I picked up things in the classroom from a very good instructor that I would not have picked up online or via correspondence. I wholeheaertedly recommend you take the classroom course if you can. You will find it more informative. The instructor I had was very focused on reality vs what is on the State exam. Also in the classroom you will have an excellent opportunity to start networking. Meet as many future realtors as you can and keep in contact "referrals Pay"

I can only give an opinion relating to California.
However, in my opinion, you don't really learn anything particularly useful by taking the real estate exam in this state.
Of course, you need to get the basic information about contracts, different kinds of properties, ways to take title, etc. But once you have taken the exam, what REALLY goes on tends to be most important tends to be different.
My suggestion would be to just focus on satisfying the requirements in as timely a fashion as possible. If that means an online course, great. I took a live course for my principals then took my brokers courses online. I passed both exams first time. The difference with the brokers courses was that I found I actually learned a few useful things in the process.
For your situation, I think online is really the only way to go.
Good Luck, R

FL, the online program was through www.proeducate.com. The material was clearly presented, there were quizzes along the way, and the final was thorough and comprehensive. Overall, my experience was positive. I'd recommend them.

I am considering taking an online course. I am too busy to go sit in a classroom. Anybody ever used Career Webschool? I am thinking about using their online course.

I took both the salesperson's and broker's course online. It worked out great for me.
Here's the deal, and some folks may rip me on this:
The prelicense course does not teach you how to be effective at real estate sales.
I have never had to know about riparian rights, surveying methods (firsthand- I have had to have surveys done, but a professional did them), or the vast majority of stuff that was in the salesperson's course. The most practical part of the course is the math.
The broker's course gave a little more information on how to setup an office, maintain an escrow account, etc. Most of that was either common sense or stuff another professional would handle (CPA, atty, etc.).
My point to all this is that if you want to get into real estate, successfully passing the course will just open the opportunity. As a new agent, once you pass the test, you must focus on sales training.
You need to get training not only in the real estate arena, but a good helping of general sales training.
The folks who develop an understanding of why people buy your services will be the non-statistcal ones that last for more than a couple of years in this business.
As for the content of the online vs. classroom, it is virtually the same (at least in GA) because it is mandated by the licensing board of the state. From there, it is personal preference.
I will say, however, that the online route requires far more self discipline and concentration. If a potential agent chose to use this for pre-licensing, I would suggest to do it alone, maybe at a library. Don't do it at home with your spouse, kids, or roommates as a possible distraction.

I've been trying to find info here and many other sites about the real quality of the prelicensing online real estate classes I found advertised on the web. I have to take an online course but I want to learn as much as possible from the class, not only to get a license.
If you feel comfortable with sharing your experience, could you please help me with my choice? I will take the exam for FL.
Thank you! Hi FL to be! I am in the same boat as you. I am an NY agent relocating to FL. I found a NYC school that offers in-class prelicensing ed for the FL. Anyway, I am looking to also take mortgage prelicensing coursework, but for that it looks like there just aren't any FL mortgage licensing schools offering classes outside of FL, and it must be in-class, they don't accept online coursework. My brother lives in VA and mentioned he wants to relocate to FL (Space Coast area) within the year. He lives on the Manassus Chantilly border area. I would imagine the DC area, like NYC, has at least 1 RE school offering the licensing course? Let us know? I'm so glad to have found a FL licensing school here in NYC. PS: Where in FL are you relocating to? Me for now I'm pretty flex, looking into anywhere pretty much. Best, Neil

I am also in Georgia. I took my prelicens course from Coldwell Banker School of Real Estate in Roswell. I think I learned a lot and passed the state exame the 1st time. I took my Broker Course online from WWW.gamls.com. I also passed the test the first time. I thought the broker course and test was a lot easier than the prelicense course and test. I think I learned more in the classroom than I did on the computer. I did not have any real estate experience before my prelicense course either. It did seem to take forever a couple of nights a weeks and a couple of Saturday's. It all depends on your learning style. But I recommend gamls.com.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
