Just wanted to let you know there is a new forum in Agents online for Canadian Real Estate Issues? Is there a need for this forum?

There's a few issues with regulators, and case law that is uniquely Canadian. I look forward to seeing your contributions.

Great idea. Lot's of talk in our office currently with all REBA 2002. Also changes in the forms, glad I can tell my customers I have insurance, should be in court soon.

Just talked with an owner/broker of a local franchise about the addition of the insurance notation at the end of the new listing forms. He figures it is looking for trouble, to draw attention to the fact that Realtors carry mandatory insurance in Ontario. "We are judged by the company we keep." It's funny when you think about this: We don't drive our cars with a sign in the back window saying "Hit me, I have insurance"

Its just understood we have insurance. The same argument was made in Alberta when E&O was made mandatory. "Now that we have insurance everyone is going to sue us"...That was just after the sky is falling. Litigation is on the rise not because we have insurance but because the industry has become more complex and there are more areas for agents to make mistakes and there's always the lawyers. You want to point a finger though. Start pointing it at Title insurance companies. That's right they are the first ones to come after agents to offset losses.

Wasn't it Winston Churchill who said that England and America are two countries separated by the same language? Well, in certain respects, it applies to Canada and the US as well. The differences are subtle, but there's certainly room/need for a forum that airs them. I welcome this addition! Duncan

If England and the u.s. are two countries seperated by the same language then Canada and the U.S. are like twins that share the same organs but have different minds.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
