Insurance rate has been skyrocketing in Florida, and after so many companies pulled out of the state, those home owners that are unable to get insurance elsewhere are forced to buy insurance from Citizens. Now Citizens is raising about 68% and an additional 57% next year and that does not include what Wilma did last year.
Anyways I currently own a home, and bought a second home but I need to remodel it before I can move in. The remodeling may take about six months. After I move in I will sell the current home, or I may wait depends on the market conditions. Right now it is hard to sell. So basically I might be stucked with two homes.
I just received a notice from Citizens saying that they will now only insure the primary residence and not second homes. So while I have two homes, I cannot get anyone to insure the second home.
Any advise how to get coverage for a second home?
Thanks,
PF
